Rejuvenating Your Day With Tahajjud

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Abu Hurayrah (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said,

“The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.” [Muslim]

Abu Hurayrah reports that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Our Lord Descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: `Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?” [Bukhari and Muslim]

During the day we are preoccupied with people while engaging in our daily activities with family, school, earning a living, da'wah, etc. When the day is over, the body also need to recharge. Tahajjud is a great way to recharge our body by being alone with the Lord. It is the night when we can really be alone with Allah because most people are sleeping and no one to bother us. It's a tremendous time to rejuvenate our day to serve His Deen.

Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. (6) Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. (7) And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. (8)
[Qur'an, Al-Muzzammil 73:6-8]

Allah has created the night for rest.
وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ﴿١٠﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ‌ مَعَاشًا ﴿١١

And made your sleep [a means for] rest (9) And made the night as clothing (10)
[Qur'an, An-Naba' 78:9-10]

So sleep some and wake up for tahajjud.

If you are having a hard time waking up for tahajjud, this is a good time to practice waking up for tahajjud especially in those areas where the night is long. If you sleep right after 'isha prayer, you should be able to wake up 30 minutes before Fajr and still have enough sleep. At the same time you are sure not to miss the very important obligatory prayer, Fajr, and the emphasized sunnah before Fajr prayer.

May Allah grant you tawfiq. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wassallam.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
