Allah Makes the Path to Paradise Easy for the One Who Treads The Path of Seeking Knowledge

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen." [Bukhari]

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "He who goes forth in search of knowledge is considered as struggling in the Cause of Allah until he returns." [At- Tirmidhi]

Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge." [Muslim]

Undoubtedly, religious knowledge is one of the foremost ways leading to Allah. So whoever traverses His path without deviating from it, he will reach Allah and His Paradise by the nearest and easiest path.

The paths leading to Paradise will be made easy upon him, all of them (the actual and figurative paths), in this life and the hereafter. There is no way of leading a servant to know Allah and to His pleasure, to success by drawing near to Him, and to conversing with Him in this life and the hereafter except with beneficial knowledge – that which Allah sent His messengers with and revealed His books with. It is this evidence and support which leads to Allah. By it (this knowledge), the person becomes correctly guided amidst the darkness of ignorance, doubts, and false beliefs. For this, Allah has referred to His book as a light because He guides therewith through the darkness. Allah Almighty says:

O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. (15) By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darkness into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path. (16)
[Qur'an, al-Maaidah 5:15-16]

The Prophet (Allah bless him and gran him peace) likened the carrier of religious knowledge to the one who uses the stars for guidance and direction throughout the night. If the stars become overshadowed, the travelers would lose their direction. So as long as there is the correct religious knowledge remaining on earth, the people will be guided. And knowledge remaining is dependent upon its carriers and possessors remaining. If those with knowledge and those who support it depart, people would fall back into misguidance.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with father and son): The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by removing it all at once from the servants. Rather, He takes knowledge away by taking the scholars (in death) until there remains no scholar; people will accept ignorant leaders. They will question them and they will give religious verdicts with no knowledge, thereby being misguided and misguiding others.”

May Allah increase us in beneficial knowledge and grant us sound understanding of His Religion and grant us the highest Paradise. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Compete in Patience (Sabr)

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

It has never been easy to be patient, but it's probably harder now than at any time in history. In a world where messages and information can be sent across the world instantly, everything is available with only a few clicks and touches on the keypad. Alhamdulillah, patience is a virtue that can be cultivated and nurtured over time.

So, what's the purpose of building patience abilities? In a word, happiness. We can't be happy without patience. We can't be successful without patience. We can't go through life without patience. Well worth the effort. But effort, indeed, it takes.

We can all work to develop more patience. An important idea here is that developing patience is just that. Developing a skill. We aren't born with it. Think of a hungry infant- shrieking with all it's red-faced, rigid-bodied impatient demand for satisfaction.

After all, we can't just sit down at a piano and play it without ever learning to play and practicing, practicing, practicing. That practicing includes 1) paying attention to when we are not patient, 2) being kind to ourselves for not being "perfect" already, and 3) changing the automatic judgmental, critical thoughts and feelings.

Just imagine how it would feel if we never felt rushed, or hurt by another person's impatience with us. And how it would feel if we were never (well, almost never) irritated or impatient with someone - either someone else, or ourselves. What would that be like? Is it worth practicing patience?

Allah Almighty commanded us to be patient under all conditions and circumstances. Not only that, we are instructed to compete in patience, be on standby and high alert as much tougher challenges are ahead, and observe Taqwa (fear of Allah) which is the essence of everything we do and on which depends the Divine acceptance of what has been done. At the heart of our progression, as Muslims, whether we are in the state of Islam, Iman or Ihsan, the vehicle that drives that progress is Taqwa.

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful. (200)
[Qur'an, AleImran 3:200]

Sabr is the effort made to control and defend one's slippery self against what is temperamentally unpleasing. Sabr takes three forms:

1. Patience with Duties: It means that everything commanded by Almighty Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) must be obediently pursued, no matter how burdensome the adherence to them may appear to be. The aim is to keep one's self almost riveted to carry out injunctions despite hindrance.

2. Patience against Sins: It means holding the desiring self back from whatever has been prohibited by Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace), no matter how desirable and appealing it may be.

3. Patience in Hardship and Distress: It means enduring in hardship and forbearing in pain and avoiding excessive anxiety. Such patience requires that all pain and comfort be taken to have come from Allah and from this realization comes the strength to keep one's self under control.

May Allah make us of the patient and taqwa, and give us the best of ability to act in accordance with His Commands. May Allah grant us success in this life and the next, and save us from trials and tribulations in this life and the next. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Let's Read Surah Kahf Today (Friday) -- Lessons on Seeking and Teaching Knowledge

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

The main theme of the story of Prophet Musa and Al-Khidr (peace be upon them) in Surah Al-Kahf is knowledge.

Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?" [Qur'an, Al-Kahf 18:66]

Islam is a treasure chest of wisdom totally relevant to our daily life. It is amazingly beautiful that Allah made seeking knowledge (‘ilm) an obligation upon every Muslim.

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

“The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.” [At-Tirmidhi]

"Allah, His angels and all those in Heavens and on Earth, even ants in their hills and fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct others in beneficial knowledge." [Al-Tirmidhi]

Some lessons on how to be a productive student and teacher.

Lesson 1: Be grateful and thank Allah for the knowledge you have.

Before we start with a selection of the ayaat from the story of Prophet Musa and Al-Khidr, look at the crucial lesson the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam told us: Once Musa stood up and addressed Bani Israel. He was asked: “Who is the most learned man amongst the people?” He said: “I am the most learned.” Allah admonished Musa as he did not attribute absolute knowledge to Him (Allah). So Allah inspired to him, “At the junction of the two seas there is a slave of mine who is more learned than you.” Musa said: “O my Lord! How can I meet him?” [Al-Bukhari]

There is no one who knows everything. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gives certain knowledge to whoever He wills. Prophet Musa didn’t link his knowledge to Allah. All the knowledge that we have is from Allah and we need to thank Him.

Half of wisdom is the ability to say La adree (I don’t know). Some say speaking about Allah without any knowledge is worse than shirk. So by saying “I don’t know” you’re actually saving yourself!

Lesson 2: Recognize the importance of determination.

Ayah 60:

And [mention] when Moses said to his servant, "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."

When Prophet Musa found out there was someone more learned than himself he was determined to find him. As a seeker of knowledge you should have a strong determination. Prophet Musa said he wouldn’t stop until he got to the place where he would meet al-Khidr.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was determined to get knowledge and wouldn’t eat until he found it!

Lesson 3: Recognize the importance of seeking companions in knowledge.

Ayah 62:

So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue."

Realize the importance of companionship when seeking knowledge. Help each other.

Lesson 4: Know that Shaytan will try to block knowledge.

Ayah 63:

He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan - that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly".

This is a reminder that seeking knowledge is not an easy task, and it’s a given that you’ll face difficulties. Shaytan will always come and try to block you from gaining knowledge. If you forget something good it is from Shaytan.

Lesson 5: Students must have good manners.

Ayah 66:

Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"

The seeker of knowledge always asks politely. Prophet Musa asked his question in a gentle way, and this is how you should address your teacher or a scholar.

Before asking your question, you should make dua’ for him or her, for example, May Allah grant you and your family Jannatul Firdaus, my question is...

Lesson 6: Teachers must also have good manners.

Ayah 67 & 68:

He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience. (67) And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?" (68)

The teacher knows his student; Al-Khidr knew his student well. The teacher should also advise his student; sometimes the teacher knows what is best for the student better than the student does.

Another etiquette of the teacher with the students is being able to speak to the student according to the student’s level. Al-Khidr is saying that he has knowledge of Allah’s wisdom that Prophet Musa can’t see, but he doesn’t humiliate Musa.

Lesson 7: Be patient and obedient.

Ayah 69 & 70:

[Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order." (69) He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention." (70)

Prophet Musa didn’t give up, and he had the intention to be patient.

Hastiness is one of the main problems of students. How many times do we start studying something but don’t have the patience to continue? If you tell yourself from the start “I’m going to be patient,” your mindset will be just right.

One of the conditions for you as a seeker of knowledge is patience, and the other is obedience to the way your teacher set out for you. The teacher is like a parent for his or her student; whenever you teach anyone, you should do so with love and mercy.

Lesson 8: Move from knowledge to productivity.

Ayah 82:

And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."

The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of Allah. [At-Tirmidhi]

If knowledge brings you closer to Allah and gives you taqwa (Godfearingness) then this is a blessing from Allah. Knowledge can also be a trial; you can use it in the wrong way or not practice what you learn at all.

How can knowledge make you more productive? Knowledge about certain deeds and their immense reward can bring you closer to Allah. Examples are the two rakaat sunnah you pray before Fajr and after two rakaat Maghrib. Some people don’t have the knowledge and therefore leave it. So study, practice what you learn, and teach your knowledge to others.

May Allah increase us in beneficial knowledge and help us apply it and teach it to others. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Signs of Possessing Good Character

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

When asked about the best of the believers, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam replied, “They are those who have the best character and manners.” [At-Tirmidhee, Abu Daawood]

In fact, the Qur’an uses the comprehensive Arabic word Birr to refer to faith. Allah Almighty says,

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous. (177)
[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:177]

The word Birr is a rather comprehensive term which includes all forms of righteousness, in word and deed. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam points to good character being the greatest characteristic of Birr.

"Righteousness is in good character, and wrongdoing is that which wavers in your soul, and which you dislike people finding out about." [Muslim]

Birr is what encourages people to perform righteous actions, and is associated with Al-Abraar - righteous, pious people who are obedient to Allah Most High.

Birr encompasses many characteristics: justice in one’s dealings, kindness, consideration in one’s endeavors, being generous in offering help, as well as other traits of the believers whom Allah Most High has described by saying:

Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (1) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (2) And they who turn away from ill speech (3) And they who are observant of zakah (4) And they who guard their private parts (5) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - (6) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors - (7) And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive (8) And they who carefully maintain their prayers - (9) Those are the inheritors (10)
[Qur'an, Al-Mu'minun 23:1-10]

Whoever is unsure of his condition, he should measure these characteristics within himself; if he finds in himself these good qualities, then this is a sign of possessing good character. If he finds that he does not possess any of these characteristics, this is a sign of bad character. If he finds only some of them, then he should strive to retain what he possesses and to obtain what he does not.

May Allah grant us righteousness and noble character, and increase us in taqwa. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Who are the People of Jannah?

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

If Allah can take your breath away at the sight of His magnificent creation or the beauty of the world, imagine what magnificence and beauty awaits the people of Jannah (Paradise). And imagine looking at the One who made it all.

What Allah has prepared for His believing slaves are much, much, so much better beyond our expectation and wildest imagination, for Allah said in a hadith Qudsi, “I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen and no ear has heard, nor has it occurred to human heart.”

Who are the people of Jannah? They are the 'muttaqeen' (people conscious of Allah)

Truly! Those who have Taqwa, will dwell in Gardens and water springs. (It will be said to them): ‘Enter therein (Paradise), in peace and security.’ And We shall remove from their breasts any deep feeling of bitterness, (so they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones. No sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave it.”
[Qur'an, Al-Hijr 15:45-48]

What will get us into Jannah is not our deeds. How small are our deeds to be repaid with Jannah! It is by Allah's mercy that we may enter Jannah. Allah has attributed the obedience of Himself and His Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) with the one who is hopeful of getting mercy of Allah. So anyone hoping to obtain mercy of Allah needs to first change his attitude towards the obedience of Allah and his Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace). There is no mercy outside the obedience.

And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers. (131) And obey Allah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy. (132)
[Qur'an, AleImran 3:131-132]

Allah repeats the same thing many times in the Qur'an. And the proportions to which something is mentioned more, it illustrates that how quickly people forget that which is more. So if Allah mentions taqwa over 200 times, it is because even if you know about taqwa, you forget to apply it. You forget to think about it, you forget to realize it when the time comes. So we need to be reminded over and over again.

In the following ayaat, there are specific attributes that we should try to remember and implement to gain taqwa.

--Hasten to forgiveness from Allah:

وَسَارِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ‌ٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿١٣٣

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous (133) [Qur'an, AleImran 3:133]

Allah is giving us something else to run towards. The first thing, forgiveness from your Lord. Also, we must understand here that we never run towards something that we don't need. You rush to work because you need to get there on time. You hit the books because you need to pass the exam. We rush to things when we are in need of them. So first of all, we need to acknowledge that we are in utter need of Allah's forgiveness. And who will realize they need to be forgiven by Allah except the one who realize they have done something wrong. The first thing that a believer needs to internalize is that no matter how good a Muslim we are, we are not free of sin. We are not free from disappointing the standards that Allah set for us.

--Spending for Allah's sake:

ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ فِى ٱلسَّرَّآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ

Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship ...(134) [Qur'an, AleImran 3:134]

Spending is not limited to your wealth, but also your time, your youth, your energies, your priorities, your planning. You give that up for the sake of Allah. You sacrifice things for the sake of Allah. And we let go of it for the sake of Allah to acquire this attribute of taqwa.

--Restraining Anger:

... and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good; (134) [Qur'an, AleImran 3:134]

By saying the word 'kazimeen,' Allah demonstrates that we need to have such a good control over our temper, that when you do come across something that makes you upset, and as upset as it makes you, not only you have to be quiet, you cant even show the anger on your face. You have to swallow it as though its not even there. The imagery is incredible. You have to have this self control and this self control is becoming increasingly difficult especially for young people. Somebody says something that you don't want to hear, your face fires up.

Learn to swallow your anger. Learn to persevere through all these things. Don't let things annoy us. It's not worth losing Jannah over.

--When they commit immorality and shamelessness, they remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins:

And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know. (135) [Qur'an, AleImran 3:135]

Any act of shamelessness, whether what the chests is hiding, whether it was stealing of the eyes, gazing at something they shouldn't have, whether it was a billboard, whether it was a banner, whether it was some facebook friend you made, whether it was some texting you were doing In the middle of the night, whether it was some inappropriate interaction. Whatever it was, whatever shameless thing you did, Allah sees it, knows it. The mutaqqeen are being described-- they may fall into this trap too. They are not immune. We live in a culture of fahisha. We are breathing in and out fahisha. Allah is describing the muttaqeen like this. Why? Because they will do mistakes. But there is something that they do after the mistakes. The true muttaq, when he does something wrong, he immediately remembers Allah and seek forgiveness.

May Allah make us true muttaqeen. May Allah make us of those who are generous, who suppress their anger, who forgive others lovingly, out of love for Allah. May Allah make us of those, who when wrong themselves, immediately turn to Allah. May Allah make us of those who never loose hope in Allah. May Allah protect us and our families. May Allah grant us His Noble Countenance. Ameen

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Be Positive: There is Light at the End of the Tunnel

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

This life is not meant to be perfect. The perfect world is Paradise and this is why we should strive for it here, and not a moment should pass by that we sit idle and not doing something that could get us there, by the mercy of Allah.

Remember, whatever pain and difficulties we go through in this life pales in comparison to what we will go through in the future if we don't get into Paradise.

So then how do we, as believers, deal with our hardships and calamities, or tragedies around the world for that matter? The first step is by realizing that nothing happens except that Allah Most High has ordained it.

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy - (22) [Qur'an, Al-Hadid 57:22]

Allah created us and He knows what is best for us. Knowing this helps us gain a positive connection with our Creator and thus a positive outlook in life.

Indeed, negativity is a contagious disease that cripples the individual, and through that individual, the ummah – and this is especially true for the one who constantly complains. Remember in the battle of Uhud, when the false rumor that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had been killed was spread among the Companions – causing so much panic and confusion – remember Anas ibn an-Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) who shouted words of encouragement to continue to fight amidst the chaos. He was an exemplary role model of positive attitude in the midst of negativity.

We should strive to be like Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). And realize that your du’a and patience are your weapons. The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Indeed victory and provisions are granted through your weak.” [Bukhari] And in another narration under the chapter of seeking the support of Allah by the supplications of the weak: “Allah support this Ummah because of their supplication, their Salah, and their sincerity.” [Sunan An-Nasa’i]

The profound lessons from these ahadeeth is that no single individual in the Ummah should be looked down upon. Everyone can help contribute towards its success, everyone has a role, and everyone should do their part. The real question is: How often have we really made du’a for the Ummah? We should not reduce our du’as to a mere asking for‬ this or that. Make heartfelt du’as in our sujood, in the last third of the night, constantly on a daily basis. And persevere, be patient, and have faith that Allah will respond.

Remember to make dua in remembrance of Allah and thank Him for all that He has bestowed upon you. Making du'a for oneself and for others is characteristic of a true Muslim. A trait that Allah Himself loves to see in believers.

Make a habit of saying “Alhamdulillah” (all praise and thanks be to Allah) at every ease and hardships.

Suhaib reported that Allah’s Messenger ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said:

“Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks Allah, thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (endures into patiently), there is good for him in it.” [Sahih Muslim]

Think good things, say good things.

The fact that we can think and speak is indeed a gift from Allah. Are you aware of the angels that guard you throughout your lives? The angels who are appointed by Allah to write down your good and bad deeds?

When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left. (17) Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record]. (18) [Qur'an, Qaf 50:17-18]

Be wary of what you say. Every thought, every word you speak, is written down and is presented on the Day of Judgement. So try to bring yourself to think good thoughts, think good for others. Start with small good thoughts. They could benefit us in the long run through good practice of it in our daily life.

May Allah enable us to think positive amidst any calamities and grant us patience and steadfastness. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

People of Qur'an -- Allah's Most Elect

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Allah has elect among His creations and people of Qur'an are the people of Allah, His most elect.

‘Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “The best of you are the ones who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.” [Bukhari]

Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, [Qur'an, Al-Alaq 96:1]

One should strive to recite some Qur'an everyday without fail. Reciting a juz (part) daily is the minimum amount we should strive for. A juz a day is considered to be a moderate amount. It should not be a big deal once you are used to reciting this amount every day, but it is a big deal in terms of its virtues.

There was a story about some men who came to question ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, during his khilafah about the leadership of Makkah, they asked, “Who do you use to govern Makkah?” He said, “Ibn Abzaa.” They asked, “And who is Ibn Abzaa?” Umar replied, “A freed slave from those we freed.” They remarked, “You left a freed slave in charge of the people of the Valley (the noble tribes of the Quraysh)!?” So he answered them, “Verily he is a reader of the Book of Allah and is knowledgeable about the obligations of the Muslims. Haven’t you heard the statement of your Messenger: “Verily Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it.” [Muslim]

If you haven't reached to reciting a juz daily, recite whatever amount sustainable for 40 days and gradually increase to another sustainable amount for another 40 days and keep going. Don't let the Shaytan trick you into stopping by making you do too much at once or by making you think that you are doing too little. A page or two a day will amount to a lot in a week, a month or a year. The key is be consistent and don't stop.

We should strive to understand the Qur'an as we go along so we can benefit. Know the key words of the verses you are reciting and try to understand the surah you have memorized for your prayers. And keep improving. Read the translation of the verses you are reciting, if nothing else, and gradually move on to the tafsir of each surah and learning Arabic. Always, reflect on what you are reciting and see how it applies to your life or situation.

This is the Book (the Qur'an), wherein is no doubt, a guidance to the Godfearing. [Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:2]

The reality of the Qur'an is the Speech of Allah. If we seek to find Allah, we will find Him addressing us in the Qur'an. Approach the Qur'an with proper outward and inward manners and strive to live by the Qur'an.

...Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). [Qur'an, 49:13]

The ones who are righteous are those who hold fast to the Qur'an.

As to those who hold fast by the Book and establish regular prayer,- never shall We suffer the reward of the righteous to perish. [Qur'an, Al-'Araf 7:170]

Strive for excellence in whatever we do. Learn and recite the Qur'an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely.

Shall the reward of excellence be other than excellence? [Qur'an, Ar-Rahman 55:60]

Don't let the Shaytan give you excuses not to do it--"I don't know Arabic!" or "I am not an Arab!", or "I don't have anyone to take care of my small children", "I hardly have enough sleep as it is--so busy with work/school/exams", etc.

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

And my success is not but through Allah. Upon him I have relied, and to Him I turn (repentant). [Qur'an, Hud 11:88]

May Allah make us among the people of the Qur'an and grant us success in this life and the next. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Death of a Religious Scholar

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

There is an immense virtue and benefit of having people of knowledge around you and keeping their company, and an immense loss when they are no longer with us. Even ants in their burrows and fish in the sea, and the inhabitants of the heavens and earth weep at the death of a scholar. Why? Because they guide and teach people good, and when they die, that teaching stops.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al' As: I heard Allah's Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying, "Allah does not take away the knowledge, by taking it away from (the hearts of) the people, but takes it away by the death of the religious scholars (ulama') till when none of the religious scholars remains, people will take as their leaders ignorant persons who when consulted will give their verdict without knowledge. So they will go astray and will lead the people astray." [Sahih Bukhari]

Islam reveres the scholars because they are heirs to the Prophets (peace be upon them) who follow their way. It is in respect to their dignity and merit that Allah mentions them along with His Name and that of His Angels when He says:
شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمِ قَآئِمًۢا بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ﴿١٨

Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (18)
(Qur’an, AleImran 3:18)

It is a distinction for the scholar that Allah sends blessings to him; and His angels and the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth also beseech Allah to bless him.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Verily, Allah do send His blessings to him who teaches people good. Also, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even ants in their holes and fishes do ask Allah to bless him. (At-Tirmidhi)

True scholars are the friends of Allah; they are the ones who really fear Allah.

And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly. Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Forgiving. (28
[Qur’an, Fatir 35:28]

They bear the knowledge with the fear of Allah, He then compensate them with great reward. Allah says:

Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord. (8)
[Qur’an, Al-Bayyinah 98:8]

Ibn Al-Qayyim said: “Scholars of Islam and those around whose sayings revolves Fatwa (religious counseling) among people; those who are endowed with the ability to derive rulings from the (the Qur’anic and Hadith) texts and whose preoccupation is the regulation of the lawful and unlawful things are to the earth what the stars are to the heaven. It is through them that the confused get guidance and people’s need of them is greater than their need of food and drink.”

The scholars are the people’s refuge during calamities. Many a blind people have seen through them; many a Sunnah have been spread through them and many an innovation have been effaced through them.

Righteous scholars are leaders in piety; if they had wanted beauties and high positions of this world, it would have come to them submissively, but they live with their knowledge and meritorious deeds in a happiness that is far better than that of the people of worldly positions; that is because, their whole life revolves around no more than what Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) say. They do not learn knowledge for adornment purpose but to benefit from it. Their impact is so strong that, if they walk on a barren land it becomes fertile and if they step their feet on a territory full of darkness it becomes illuminated.

A scholar in the real sense of the word is not the holder of higher certificates and academic titles. He is rather the one who has a combination of knowledge, strong and deep Imaan, obedience to his Creator and constantly in acts of worship. These are the people of knowledge whom Allah describes as incomparable to others when He says:

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding. (9)
[Qur’an, Az-Zumar 39:9]

It was asked: “How can a true knowledgeable man be recognized?” “He is the one who is ascetic in this world and occupies himself with the affairs of the Hereafter.”

Nevertheless, scholars should not be regarded as perfect beings who are free against any defects, errors or mistakes; for, this is quite impossible. However, one should not be looking for the mistakes of a knowledgeable man because he may have an excuse that is unknown to that or us, this mistake may have a reason, which cannot be perceived by us.

If the Prophets (peace be on them) have the right to be honored and revered, their inheritors should also have a share of that. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “The scholars are indeed the heirs of the Prophets.” (Abu Dawood and others)

It is therefore incumbent on us to love them, to obey them in good, to defend them and ask for Allah’s Mercy for those who are deceased among them. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with father and son) said whoever annoys a knowledgeable man has annoyed the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace); and whoever annoys the Messenger of Allah has annoyed Allah.

Death of a scholar is an irreparable loss to this Ummah. We beseech Allah to forgive the deceased among them and to benefit us with the knowledge of the living ones.

We just lost three great South East Asian scholars in the same day (Friday) -- Tok Guru Haji Salleh Musa of Kedah (Malaysia) and two scholars of Aceh (Indonesia), may Allah have mercy on them. Eyes do shed tears and hearts do get saddened. But if all of us shed our tears, that cannot change the situation nor prevent any harm. Actually, reaction of people of weak minds — after the death of a scholar — do not go beyond shedding tears and mere wailing and lamentations; but people of lofty aims and enlightened minds do go beyond that for, they know that sincere love for those scholars means to live according to their way; to die on their path; to be good example in knowledge and good deeds; to be leaders in piety and humbleness; to be models in patience and perseverance and to be pace-setters in generosity and sacrifice. Such are the characteristics of the Ulama' and such should be the characteristics of those who love them.

The Ulama' are not personalities whose virtues should merely be sung or written on pages without benefiting from their light. A father told his son, "Go to the Ulama', take knowledge from them and learn from their manners, characters and guidance; that is dearer to me than your learning of many Hadiths (without manners).”

May Allah Most High have mercy upon our scholars who have passed, accept their works, and continue their benefit, and grant their families, students, and others steadfastness and the success to continue on their noble examples, on the footsteps of the beloved Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace and upon his folk). May Allah Most High increase us in beneficial knowledge, and increase our love for His beloved Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and grant us his company in this world and in the Hereafter.

Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Healing Hearts -- Du'a of Umm Salamah (R.A.)

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Allah, Exalted is He, says,

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, (155) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." (156) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided. (157)

[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:155-157]

When we are afflicted with trials and hardships--loss of loved one, sickness, loss of wealth or job, etc, or simply do not get something we anticipated or hoped for, then the story of the mother of the believers, Umm Salamah (radiAllahu anha), brings much comfort to the heart. It encourages us to build up our own strength and increase our trust in Allah, for surely He is the Best of Planners and Providers.

Du'a of Umm Salamah

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying, “When a person suffers from a calamity and utters:

اللهم آجرني في مصيبتي، واخلف لي خيرا منها، إلا آجره الله تعالي في مصيبته واخلف له خيراً منها

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji`un. Allahumma ujurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khairan minha

(To Allah we belong and to Him is our return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with that which is better), then Allah surely compensates him with reward and better substitute." Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) died, I repeated the same supplication as the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had commanded me (to do). So Allah bestowed upon me a better substitute than him (I was married to Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam).[Muslim].

May Allah rain down His mercy upon us, our families and our loved ones, and save us from the trials and tribulations of this life and the next, and relieve the suffering around the world. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Earn a Massive Reward -- Participating in a Muslim Funeral Prayer and Procession

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Participation in a Muslim’s funeral procession and prayer for him brings a Muslim a great reward, regardless if you know the deceased/family or not – like the massiveness of a big mountain. And if he stays beside the grave till the burial takes place, the reward will become two-fold, that is, equaling the massiveness of two huge mountains.

Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqaas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: He was sitting with ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when Khabbaab (mar Allah be pleased with him) came and said: “O ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Umar, have you not heard what Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is saying? (He says) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) say, ‘Whoever goes out with a funeral from the house (of the deceased) until he offers the funeral prayer, then he goes with it until (the deceased) is buried will have two qiraats of reward, each of which is like (Mount) Uhud. And whoever offers the funeral prayer then leaves will have reward like Uhud.’” Ibn ‘Umar sent Khabbaab to Aisha (mat Allah be pleased with her) to ask her about what Abu Hurayrah had said, then come back and tell him what she said. Ibn ‘Umar picked up a handful of pebbles from the masjid and turned them over in his hand until his messenger came back and said: “ Aisha said: Abu Hurayrah is speaking the truth.” Ibn ‘Umar threw the pebbles in his hand onto the floor and said: “We have missed out on many qiraats.”

A qiraat is a large amount of reward, which the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) likened to the mountain of Uhud.

There are five categories of attending funerals:

1 – Attending from the time the deceased is brought out of his house, until the funeral prayer is offered for him and the burial is finished. This is the most complete category, for which there are two huge qiraats of reward.

2 – Attending from the time the deceased is brought out of his house, until the funeral prayer is offered for him. This brings one qiraat of reward.

3 – Offering the funeral prayer for him, even if one did not come with the deceased from the time he was brought out of his house. This brings one qiraat according to the view favored by al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar, but it is less than the reward of one who attended from time the deceased was brought out of his house, until the funeral prayer is offered for him.

4 – Attending the burial only, without offering the funeral prayer. The apparent meaning of the hadeeth is that there is no qiraat in this case, but a person will be rewarded in accordance with his actions.

5 – Following the funeral procession for a while, then leaving, without attending the prayer or the burial. There is the hope that a person will be rewarded in accordance with his intention in this case.

O Allah, forgive me and my parents and the believing men and the believing women, the living and from the dead.

ِAmeen

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Let's Read Surah Kahf Today (Friday) -- Worldly Adornments

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Allah Almighty says in Surah Kahf:

الْمَالُ وَالْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope. [Qur'an, Al-Kahf 18:46]

Zeenah زِينَةُ is something which is ornamental, increasing beauty of something else, but by itself is useless. All the worldly possessions (tangible and intangible)--your wealth, children, spouse, job, status, fame, which you love are nothing but ornaments. The real useful thing is your good deeds which will last eternally.

And you love wealth with immense love. (20) No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? (23) [Qur'an, Al-Fajr 89:23]

May Allah make Him our only love and may He love us. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

If You Know You Will Die

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

If you know you will die, then rest assured you will be buried
If you know you will be buried, then rest assured you will be resurrected
If you know you will be resurrected, then be prepared for the Questions

On that Day, no one can save you
Not your money, not your friends, nor your culture

On that Day, a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife and his children
For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. [Qur'an, Abasa 80:34-37]

The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it]
and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance.
And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants."
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.
And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger."
But if they turn away - then indeed, Allah does not like the disbelievers. [Qur'an, AleImran 3:30-32]

So follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and don’t be concern with the question “What will people say?”
Rather be concern on what will Allah say on the Day of Judgment

When a person dies, he will be called to account for every major and minor action he did in this world, whether it was good or bad. He will be rewarded for his good deeds and punished for his bad deeds. The first stage of that reckoning is in the grave. In the grave the first thing a person will be asked will be: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is this man who was sent amongst you?

It was narrated that al-Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) for the funeral of a man from among the Ansaar. We came to the grave and when (the deceased) was placed in the lahd, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat down and we sat around him, as if there were birds on our heads (i.e., quiet and still). In his hand he had a stick with which he was scratching the ground. Then he raised his head and said, “Seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave”, two or three times.

Then he said, “When the believing slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with white faces like the sun, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. They bring with them shrouds from Paradise and perfumes from Paradise. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O good soul, come forth to forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure.’ Then it comes out easily like a drop of water from the the mouth of a waterskin.

When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that shroud with that perfume, and there comes from it a fragrance like the finest musk on the face of the earth. Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this good soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the best names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is opened, and (the soul) is welcomed and accompanied to the next heaven by those who are closest to Allah, until they reach the seventh heaven.

Then Allah says: ‘Record the book of My slave in ‘Illiyoon in the seventh heaven, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is returned to his body and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Allah.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They say, ‘Who is this man who was sent among you?’ He says, ‘He is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).’ They say, ‘What did you do?’ He says, ‘I read the Book of Allah and I believed in it.’ Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘My slave has spoken the truth, so prepare for him a bed from Paradise and clothe him from Paradise, and open for him a gate to Paradise.’

Then there comes to him some of its fragrance, and his grave is made wide, as far as he can see.

Then there comes to him a man with a handsome face and handsome clothes, and a good fragrance, who says, ‘Receive the glad tidings that will bring you joy this day.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which brings glad tidings.’ He says, ‘I am your righteous deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, hasten the Hour so that I may return to my family and my wealth.’

But when the disbelieving slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with black faces, bringing sackcloth, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O evil soul, come forth to the wrath of Allah and His anger.’ Then his soul disperses inside his body, then comes out cutting the veins and nerves, like a skewer passing through wet wool.

When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that sackcloth, and there comes from it a stench like the foulest stench of a dead body on the face of the earth. Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this evil soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the worst names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is not opened.”

Then the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) recited:

... the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle.

[Qur'an, al-A’raf 7:40]

He said: “Then Allah says, ‘Record the book of My slave in Sijjeen in the lowest earth, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is cast down.”

Then the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and gran him peace) recited the verse:

وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا خَرَّ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَخْطَفُهُ ٱلطَّيْرُ أَوْ تَهْوِى بِهِ ٱلرِّيحُ فِى مَكَانٍ سَحِيقٍ ...

...And he who associates with Allah - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place. (31) [Qur'an, al-Hajj 22:31]

He said: “Then his soul is returned to his body, and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’

Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘Prepare for him a bed from Hell and clothe him from Hell, and open for him a gate to Hell.’ Then there comes to him some of its heat and hot winds, and his grave is constricted and compresses him until his ribs interlock. Then there comes to him a man with an ugly face and ugly clothes, and a foul stench, who says, ‘Receive the bad news, this is the day that you were promised.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which forebodes evil.’ He says, ‘I am your evil deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, do not let the Hour come, do not let the Hour come.’”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4753; Ahmad, 18063 – this version was narrated by him. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1676.

On the Day of Resurrection he will be brought to account for every major and minor action, even though he has already been brought to account for that in the grave. The first thing for which he will be brought to account for then will be his prayer.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “The first thing among their deeds for which the people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be prayer. Our Lord will say to His angels, although He knows best, ‘Look at My slave’s prayer, is it complete or lacking?’ If it is complete, it will be recorded as complete, but if it is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether my slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.’ If he had done voluntary prayers, He will say, ‘Complete the obligatory prayers of My slave from his voluntary prayers.’ Then the rest of his deeds will be examined in a similar manner.”

(Narrated by Abu Dawood, 864; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 770).

On the Day of Resurrection, people will be asked about other matters, including the following:

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “The son of Adam will not be dismissed from before his Lord on the Day of Resurrection until he has been questioned about five things: his life and how he spent it, his youth and how he used it, his wealth and how he earned it and how he disposed of it, and how he acted upon what he acquired of knowledge.”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2422; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1969)

And the nations will be asked on the Day of Resurrection:

وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَآ أَجَبْتُمُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿٦٥

And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?" (65) [Qur'an, al-Qasas 28:65]

These are some of the things about which people will be asked on the Day of Resurrection. So the wise person who is keen to save himself should prepare the answers to these questions.

O Allah! I seek refuge with You from laziness and geriatric old age, from all kinds of sins and from being in debt; from the tribulation of the Fire and from the punishment of the Fire and from the evil of the tribulation of wealth; and I seek refuge with You from the tribulation of poverty, and I seek refuge with You from the tribulation of Al-Mesiah Ad-Dajjal. O Allah! Wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from all the sins as a white garment is cleansed from the filth, and let there be a long distance between me and my sins, as You made East and West far from each other.

May Allah enable us to follow the footsteps of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and his righteous companions (radhiAllahu anhum).

Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

Reaching Beyond the Skies

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Every creation of Allah submits to Him in its own way. The sun and moon submit so precisely to the will of Allah that we can calculate time using their movements. They never vary from their course by one second. The night never overtakes the day – they alternate in cycles ordained by Allah.

It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.
[Qur'an, Ya-Sin 36:40]

Why does the Qur'an talk about these things? Why does Allah talk about nature? It is not to give us a lesson on geography, but rather on life. If the sun and the moon can worship Allah so smoothly, why can’t we do that? Allah can make us achieve what He has given to the sun and the moon, but we need to put some effort to try to reach there.

May Allah grant us tawfiq (success) to the highest station. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Hasty Humans

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Human beings are hasty by nature. This is especially true nowadays. Just look at any of the roads in your city during daytime. People are hurrying by, walking in full speed, cars honking, as if your life or death depends on overtaking another car. When browsing the net, we become restless when downloads take a few extra minutes to complete. When waiting for the elevator, they press the button several times as if it will make the elevator suddenly realize, ‘Oh you are in a hurry!' When praying, they rush like a woodpecker--take your time praying because this may be your last one. When knocking at the door or ringing the door bell, they have to repeat it many times, as if that would hurry someone to open the door--allow time for people to come to the door, perhaps they are praying four rakaat.

In all that hurry, don't forget about what’s most important – what we're earning for the Hereafter.

No! But you love the immediate (20) And leave the Hereafter. (21)
[Qur'an, Al-Qiyamah 75:20-21]

May Allah grant us patience and excellence in our worship. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Personal Reflection -- All Good Things Come to An End Except Paradise

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Indeed, all good things come to an end except Jannah (Paradise). And the pursuit of Jannah doesn’t end in Ramadhan or Shawwal, or with the six days Shawwal fasting or one khatam of the Qur'an. Allah, Exalted is He. says,

And worship your Rabb (Lord) until there comes to you the certainty (death). (99)
[Qur'an, Al-Hijr 15:99]

The life of a believer revolves around Allah no matter what time of the day it is, or what day of the week it is, or what month of the year it is. The five prayer times, Jumu'ah, Ramadhan, Shawwal, Arafah are simply means of realizing that ultimate reality.

May Allah grant us excellent ending. May Allah grant us His Noble Countenance and the highest Jannah, Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Light Upon Light

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Ramadhan has come and gone but how about our old bad habits and our new good habits that we gained in Ramadhan?

Ramadhan came to basically allow us to hit the “pause” button on our life, which is an action-packed adventure, in order to take a relaxing, spiritual hiatus. This “break” allows us to relax and reflect, especially during the day, when there are no coffee, snack or lunch breaks to distract us. The empty stomach, contrary to popular belief, causes our minds and memories to become a tad sharper, facilitating more devoted worship and remembrance of Allah (dhikr). If we missed all that opportunity, the sunnah fasting (every Mondays, every Thursdays, 6 days Shawwal fasting, white days, etc) is another opportunity to do that all throughout the year. If you have cultivated the habit of reading the Qur'an during Ramadhan, keep the connection. And if you haven't, there is no stopping you to start connecting with the Qur'an and developing the habit to read the Qur'an on a daily basis, even if it is a small amount and increase it gradually.

There are some verses of the Qur'an in which Allah explains things to us using deep, meaningful parables that invite us to use all our pondering abilities in order to understand them fully. Let's reflect on the meaning of this verse of Light

Surah An-Nur usually brings to mind the verses of hijab for Muslim women. The reason this Surah is named “An-Nur” however, is because of this verse, in which Allah describes the heart of a believer and the faith that resides in it using the analogy of light:

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things. (35)
[Qur'an, An-Nur 24:35]

We can gauge the depth of this verse of the Qur'an just by taking a look at the number of things Allah that has mentioned in it:

Niche
Lamp
Glass
Radiant star
Blessed olive tree
East and the West (directions)
Oil
Light
Fire

The Tafsir

`Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said, “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth” means that Allah is 'the Guide' of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth.

Ibn Jurayj said: “Mujahid and Ibn `Abbas said concerning this verse, “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth“, that He is controlling their affairs and their stars and sun and moon.”

As-Suddi said concerning it, “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth“, by His (Allah's) Light, the heavens and earth are illuminated.

In the two sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim), it is recorded that Ibn `Abbas, (may Allah be pleased with him), said, “When the Messenger of Allah got up to pray at night, he would say:

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ

“O Allah, to You be praise, You are the Sustainer of heaven and earth and whoever is in them. To You be praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them.”

It was narrated that Ibn Mas`ud said, “There is no night or day with your Lord; the Light of the Throne comes from the Light of His Face.”

Tafsir Maududi expounds, “Light is something which makes things visible; which is itself manifest and helps make other things manifest. The human mind conceives light in this very sense. Absence of light is termed darkness, invisibility and obscurity. On the other hand, when there is visibility and things become exposed to view, man says there is light. Allah has been called `Light' in this basic sense, and not in the sense of a beam of light which travels at the speed of 186,000 miles per second and stimulates the optic nerve through the retina. This conception of light has nothing to do with the reality of the meaning for which human mind has coined this word.”

“The parable of 'his' Light” – there are two views concerning the meaning of the pronoun (his):

The first is that it refers to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, meaning that the parable of His guidance in the heart of the believer is “..as a niche“. This was the view of Ibn `Abbas.

The second view is that the pronoun “his” in “his light” refers to the believer, which is indicated by the context of the words and implies that the parable of the light in the heart of the believer is as a niche. So the heart of the believer and what he is naturally inclined to, of guidance and what he learns of the Qur'an, which is in accordance with his natural inclinations are, as Allah says:

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِ وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْهُ

“Can they who rely on a clear proof from their Lord, and whom a witness from Him recites it (can they be equal with the disbelievers“: [Qur'an, Hud 11:17]. The heart of the believer in its purity and clarity is likened to a lamp in transparent and jewel-like glass, and the Qur'an and shari'ah by which it is guided are likened to good, pure, shining oil in which there is no impurity or deviation.

“…as (if there were) a niche…” Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Muhammad bin Ka`b and others said, “This refers to the position of the wick in the lamp.” This is well-known, and hence Allah then says:

فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ

“…and within it a lamp” – this is the flame that burns brightly. Or it was said that the niche is a niche in the house. This is the parable given by Allah of obedience towards Him. Allah calls obedience to Him as light, then He calls it by other numerous names as well. Ubayy bin Ka`b said, “The lamp is the light (Al-Nur) and this refers to the Qur'an and the faith that is in his heart.” As-Suddi said, “It is the lamp.”

“…the lamp is in a glass” – this means that this light is shining in a clear glass. Ubayy bin Ka`b and others said, “This is the likeness of the heart of the believer.”

“.…the glass as it were a star durriyyun” – some authorities recite the word durriyyun with a dammah on the daal and without a hamzah, which means pearls, i.e., as if it were a star made of pearls (durr). Others recite it as dirri'un or durri'un, with a kasrah on the daal, or dammah on the daal, and with a hamzah at the end, which means reflection (dir'), because if something is shone on the star, it becomes brighter than at any other time. The Arabs call the stars they do not know darari. Ubayy bin Ka`b said, “A shining star”. Qatadah said: “Huge, bright and clear.”

“…..lit from a blessed tree” – this means, it is derived from olive oil, from a blessed tree.

“...an olive” – this refers to the blessed tree mentioned previously.

“..…neither of the east nor of the west” – this means that it is not in the eastern part of the land so that it does not get any sun in the first part of the day, nor is it in the western part of the land so that it is shaded from the sun before sunset, but it is in a central position where it gets sun from the beginning of the day until the end, so its oil is good and pure and shining. Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn `Abbas commented on:

زَيْتُونَةٍ لاَّ شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلاَ غَرْبِيَّةٍ

“……..an olive, neither of the east nor of the west” – this is a tree in the desert, which is not shaded by any other tree or mountain or cave, i.e. nothing covers it, and this is best for its oil.” Mujahid commented on:

by saying; “It is not in the east, where it will get no sun when the sun sets, nor is it in the west where it will get no sun when the sun rises, but it is in a position where it will get sun both at sunrise and sunset.” Sa`id bin Jubayr commented on:

..by saying, “This is the best kind of oil. When the sun rises it reaches the tree from the east and when it sets it reaches it from the west, so the sun reaches it morning and evening, so it is not counted as being in the east or in the west.”

“…..whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire touched it.” `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said, “(this means) because the oil itself is shining”.

“..Light upon Light!” – Al-`Awfi narrated from Ibn `Abbas that this meant the faith and deeds of a person. As-Suddi said: “…Light upon Light!”: “Light of the fire and the light of the oil. When they are combined, they give light, and neither of them can give light without the other”. Similarly the light of the Qur'an and the light of faith give light when they are combined, and neither can do so without the other.”

“....Allah guides to His Light whom He wills“: this means that Allah shows the way to the ones whom He chooses, as it says in the hadith recorded by imam Ahmad from `Abdullah bin `Amr, who said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah [صلى الله عليه وسلم] say:

“…Allah created His creation in darkness, then on the same day He sent His Light upon them. Whoever was touched by His Light on that day will be guided and whoever was missed will be led astray. Hence I say: the pens have dried in accordance with the knowledge of Allah, may He be glorified.”

“…And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything”: Having mentioned this parable of the Light of His guidance in the heart of the believer, Allah ends this verse with these words, which mean that He knows best who deserves to be guided and who deserves to be led astray.

Imam Ahmad recorded with a good chain of narrators that Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri said, “The Messenger of Allah [صلى الله عليه وسلم] said:

“Hearts are of four kinds:

The heart that is clear like a shining lamp;
The heart that is covered and tied up;
The heart that is upside-down; and
The heart that is clad in armor.

As for the clear heart, it is the heart of the believer in which is a lamp filled with light. As for the covered heart, this is the heart of the disbeliever. As for the upside-down heart, this is the heart of the hypocrite, who recognizes then denies. As for the armor-clad heart, this is the heart in which there is both faith and hypocrisy. The parable of the faith in it is that of legume, a sprout that is irrigated with good water, and the likeness of the hypocrisy in it is that of sores that are fed by blood and pus. Whichever of the two prevails is the characteristic that will dominate.”

[From Tafsir Ibn Kathir]

The heart is, therefore, the hotbed of our belief and the basis of our actions. Moreover, Allah alone knows what is inside our hearts. We might outwardly appear to be a certain way, and our tongues might confirm our appearance to the world, but we cannot hide the reality of our beliefs and faith from Allah.

Allah loves those who constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.

...Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." [Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:222)

We should constantly cleanse our hearts from spiritual disease and the black spots on them caused by our accumulated sins. Ask Allah in earnest supplication to make our hearts like the one mentioned in this verse – the clear heart that is like a shining lamp. A heart that is filled with the light of faith and the light of the Qur'an. A heart that is alive with love and remembrance of Allah. A heart that stays firm on its faith no matter where, or in which trying situation, a believer finds himself.

May Allah purify our hearts, keep us away from sins, and shower us with His Light. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Can You Feel The Love?

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

This is one of the beautiful Ayaat in the Qur'an.

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. (186)
[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:186]

Look closely at the ayah. Allah doesn’t say, ‘When My servant asks you about me, say to them I am near.’ It is as if He removes any other person from the conversation and addresses you individually, personally. He is talking directly to you and directly to me. ‘I am near, just call on me and I’ll answer you.’

Can you feel the love that the King of the kings is expressing towards you?

May Allah make our obedience only to Him and bring us closer to Him and feel His love. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Let's Read Surah Kahf Today (Friday) -- Prepare Your Appointment with Allah

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

On the authority of 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (RadhiyAllahu ‘anhuma), who said: The Messenger of Allah (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) took me by the shoulder and said,

“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a wayfarer.”

And Ibn Umar (RahiyAllahu ‘anhuma) used to say, “In the evening do not expect [to live until] the morning, and in the morning do not expect [to live until] the evening. Take [advantage of] your health before times of sickness, and [take advantage of] your life before your death.”

[Reported by Bukhari]

How many days go by in which you don’t even think about the most important meeting of your existence? How can you prepare for the appointment of all appointments— standing before Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala?

The appointment is made.

And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, [and He will say], You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you an appointment.
[Qur'an, Al-Kahf 18:49]

Can you imagine the moment of the Day of Judgement when Allah Himself will come with the angels, and Paradise and Hell will be brought forward? And your Lord comes with the angels in rows.

And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? (23) [Qur'an, Al-Fajr 89:22]

You know that you will soon stand before Him, personally, one by one, to be judged. People are divided into two categories: People with bright faces, due to their happiness, standing there looking at their Lord, and 2) People with darkened faces, due to their bad deeds.

[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, (22) Looking at their Lord. (23) And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted, (24) Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking. (25)
[Qur'an, Al-Qiyamah 75:22-25]

If you get your book (of deeds) in your right hand, you will be the companions of Paradise, and may Allah make us one of them. If you receive your book in your left hand you will be the companions of the Hellfire; may Allah save us.

Apart from your book of deeds there will be more witnesses for you on the day.

1. Add good things to the book of your deeds.

Allah continues in Surah Al-Kahf, the Surah which is a sunnah to read on Friday, the Day the Resurrection will occur:

And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, “Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?” And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.
[Qur'an, Al-Kahf 18:49]

The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam said: The first thing the people will be accountable for on the Day of Judgment is prayer, Allah will say to His angels : ‘Look at my servants prayers. Were they complete or not?’ If they were complete it will be written as complete. If they were not fully complete Allah will say: ‘See if my servant has voluntary prayers, if he has them Allah will say: Complete his obligatory prayers shortage with his voluntary prayers.’ Then the rest of his deeds will be dealt with in the same manner. [Ahmad, Abu Dawood, An-Nasaa’i, Al-Haakim]

Make it your priority to pray your five daily prayers on time and learn to understand whatever you recite in them to increase your khushoo. Remember this hadith and let it motivate you to do those sunnah--rawatib, tahajjud, dhuha, prayer after wudu', etc.

2. Use your limbs wisely.

This Day, We shall seal up their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their legs will bear witness to what they used to earn.
[Qur'an, Ya-Sin 36:65]

Be aware of how you use your limbs. When you are about to go to a place with forbidden (haraam) activities, remember this moment when your actual legs will tell Allah. When you are about to touch something haraam, whether it be your phone to listen to music, or your remote control to watch something forbidden, think of the moment your hands will reveal you, while in the world you might have been able to keep it behind closed doors.

3. Remember that angels are listening.

There are two angels, one on your left and one on your right, who record everything you do or say. Think about this. It might not be visual now, but it is real and it will come back to you.

Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].
[Qur'an, Qaf 50:17]

Each word you say will be recorded. Here is a great reminder for one of the most common major sins we commit: gheebah (gossip or backbiting). Remind yourself that everything you say about a person that they would not like you to mention to others, even if it’s true, falls under gheebah. Whenever you feel tempted to speak about someone in a wrong way, visualize the angel sitting next to you, ready to write each word down.

4. Deal justly with others.

Both the justice and injustice you’ve done to other people will be presented on this day.

Whenever you have wronged someone, force yourself to make it up and don’t delay. Why? Imagine the angel of death comes to take your soul before you said that deserved “sorry” and you will find yourself in need of just one more good deed on the Day of Judgement to be admitted to Paradise.

The people you wronged will come and take away your good deeds. Whoever wronged his brother with regard to his honor or any other matter, should seek his forgiveness today, before there are no longer any dinars, or dirhams; and if he has any righteous deeds, they will be taken from him, in accordance with the wrong he did; and if he has no hasanaat, some of the sayi`aat of his counterpart will be taken and added to his burden. [Bukhari]

5. Ask Allah to make you of the people of the Qur'an.

And the Qur’an is a proof for you or against you [Muslim].

So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness?
[Qur'an, An-Nisa 4:41]

Ask Allah to make you of the people of the Qur'an, of those who recite correctly, understand and apply its lessons and instructions, and work for it. Read a portion of the Qur'an every day. And strive for intercession of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. How? By reviving his Sunnah. Make it a mission to learn a new Sunnah at least each week, practicing it and conveying it to others.

6. Let the earth testify good of you; move around to make sujood.

That Day it (the Earth) will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil)
[Qur'an, Az-Zalzala 99:4]

7. Study the Names of Allah and learn to live by them.

But Allah bears witness to that which He has revealed to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness [as well]. And sufficient is Allah as Witness. (166)
[Qur'an, An-Nisa 4:166]

Study the beautiful names and attributes of your Lord and ask Him to help you live by them. A magnificent example is the Name of Allah: Ash-Shaheed (the Witness).

May Allah make our meeting with Him the best of meetings. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Coming Home with a Sound Heart (Qalbun Saleem)

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

What favors you in the sight of Allah Most High is the state of your heart. What will save you on the Day of Judgement is qalbun saleem— a sound heart.

All the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, all the joy and sadness in our lives, all the difficulties and comforts of this life, all the anger and hate that manifest, all the love and beauty we cherish, at the end of the day, what is important is that we meet Allah with a sound heart.

Islam is the religion of the heart. Everything we do, its fruit is reflected in the heart and the heart is the worth in every human being.

So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts. (46)
[Qur'an, Al-Hajj 22: 46]

In all our actions we have a decision to make. What governs our decision is Allah Most High.

In order to start moving in life you first need to have knowledge; with that knowledge you can define if something is important or not. Then it is up to you to make the move. The Prophet salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said about your heart:

"Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it be sound, all the body is sound and which, if it be diseased, all of it is diseased. Truly it is the heart." [Bukhari, Muslim]

What is the State of Your Heart?

The state of your heart will decide what you do with your knowledge. Will you benefit from it by practicing it or not? For example, if you hear an ayah of the Qur'an or a hadith, does it make you feel you want to practice it straight away or does it not have much impact on you? Whatever the answer is, it will tell you about the state of your heart.

Sins have an effect on your heart; they can cause your heart to be sealed so that the light of knowledge doesn’t reach it anymore and the ayaat of Allah don’t affect you anymore. May Allah protect us from this.

There are many diseases we find in our hearts, like jealousy, envy, greed, lust, and showing off. Our aim should be to strive to purify our hearts and turn back to Allah with a sound heart. Once a wise man made this dua: ‘ O Allah purify my heart from anything but You.’

The Heart and the Mind

When you say the word ‘Think!” most of us point to our heads, right? How many of us point to our hearts when we say “Think?” The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Taqwa is here,” and he pointed to his chest. [Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, Ahmad]

One of the functions of the heart is ta’aqqul (understanding). Allah gave us a heart to comprehend, to reflect, and to reason.

To believe, to disbelieve, to understand, to comprehend, to have tranquility, to feel confusion, to have tawakkul and to have khushoo’ are all functions of your heart.

What Do You Do With Your Heart?

Now the question is, what is your heart attached to? Is it attached to your children, your spouse, your house, your money, your favorite TV show, a celebrity, or to those special moments you spend with the Qur'an and reading about the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?

Allah Almighty says,

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children (88) But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart. (89)
[Qur'an, Ash-Shu'ara 26:88-89]

How can you train your heart to become devoted and sound?

Ask Allah, Exalted is He, by His beautiful names to purify your heart. He is Al-Wahhaab (The Giver), so ask Him to give you a pure heart. He is Al-Qareeb (The Close One), so ask Him to make your heart close to Him. He is Al-Wadood (The Ever-Loving), so ask Him to fill your heart with love for Him.

Test yourself on the signs of a pure and devoted heart.

It continues to push its companion until he turns to Allah and repents.
It doesn’t grow tired of the remembrance of Allah or His worship.
If it misses out on an act of obedience it feels a pain that is more severe than the pain felt when losing money.
It finds sweetness and delight in worship greater than any delight from food and drink.
If it enters prayer, its worries and troubles from this worldly life leave it.
It is stingier with its time being wasted than a miser’s stinginess with his money.
It is more concerned with a good deed being performed correctly and accepted than the actual deed itself.

Memorize and make this du'a.

Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower. [Qur'an, AleImran 3:8]

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.

Wassalaam
