Why Allah Saved Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him)?

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Prophet Yunus (Dhu al Nun), peace be upon him, was sent to warn the people of a town in Iraq. He made da'wah to his people but he was provoked by their animosity towards the religion of Allah. He left them in anger, discouraged at the apparent failure of his mission. He should have remained in the most discouraging circumstances, and relied on Allah. He went away to the sea and took a ship, but he was caught in a storm and thrown into the sea. He was swallowed by a big fish or whale.

"Then the (big) fish swallowed him and he had done acts worthy of blame." Qur'an As-Saffat 37:142

He ran to Allah and made sujud.

Allah says,

وَذَا ٱلنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِبًۭا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِى ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

"And remember Dhu al Nun, when he departed in wrath: He imagined that We had no power over him!.But he cried through the depths of darkness, "There is no god but thou: glory to thee: I was indeed wrong!" "So We listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith." Qur'an Al-Anbiya' 21:87-88

"Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, he would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection." Qur'an As-Saffat 37:143-144

Prophet Yunus was a righteous slave of Allah. He used to do good night and day. Because he remembered Allah in times of ease, Allah took care of him in times of difficulty.

We need to remember Allah always. Remember Allah when you are young, Allah will remember you when you are old; remember Allah when you are healthy, Allah will remember you when you are sick; remember Allah when you are wealthy, Allah will remember you when you are poor; remember Allah when you have free-time, Allah will remember you when you are busy; remember Allah while you are still alive, Allah will remember you when you are dead. May Allah have mercy on us. Ameen.
