Being Consistent With Fasting

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said:
The most beloved action to Allah is that which is most consistent.

This applies to fasting as well. We don't limit our fasting in Ramadhan but we fast at other times throughout the year (such as fasting the 6 days in Shawwal, Mondays and Thursdays, day of Arafa, first 10 days of Zulhijjah, 3 white days in each lunar month, 9th and 10th of Muharram, most of Sha'ban, etc). When we do this, not only this is a sign of the acceptance of one’s Ramadan fasts because a sign of Allah’s accepting a good deed is to be granted the success to perform similar good deeds, with consistency, this is a sign of one's commitment to continue in worship and submission to Allah, willingly, and not merely out of duty and obligation.

The recipe to gain Allah's love is to perform the obligatory religious duties and add supererogatory works.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:
Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him. (Bukhari)

Good deeds raise one's rank and erase the person's sins (except major sins which require sincere repentance for forgiveness). It is very important to have clear intent during acts of worship and establish consistency, rather than going overboard and then leaving the acts of worship all together.

May Allah give us tawfiq. Ameen. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
