In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
Dear Friends
I pray that you are well.
Everybody know that they are going to die one day. We are certain about death but many of us deal with it as if it is something doubtful. How much are we preparing for death? Many don't prepare for it and if they do prepare for it, they prepare the aspect of death that is in this life. They prepare for their places of burial, their funeral ceremony and tombstone but nothing for the life of the Hereafter.
Allah says,
[Qur'an al-Ankabut 29:57]
Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned.
But why many many people don't behave like they are going to die? It is not so much of ignorance but lack of or insufficient iman. Their hearts are not attached to the Creator. Their hearts are attached to this world. Their desires of this world run high. They do haram (prohibitions) left and right, and some don't mind showing their haram deeds in public. Some try to justify their haram deeds.
We have to work on our iman now because our term in this life is fixed. It will not change. There isn't much time. It can be next month, next week, tomorrow or next second. When we die, that's said. We are counted as the inhabitants on the other side and it is too late to repent or do any good deed.
Allah says,
It is not given to any soul to die, save by the leave of God, at an appointed time. Whoso desires the reward of this world, We will give him of this; and whoso desires the reward of the other world, We will give him of that; and We will recompense the thankful.
We cannot try to run away from death. Death will come unannounce and will happen wherever Allah decides.
[Qur'an An-Nisa 4:78]
Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, "This is from Allah "; and if evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you." Say, "All [things] are from Allah." So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?
We need to talk about death frequently and remind each other about it to keep the awareness of the life of the Hereafter. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
Remember the terminator of all pleasures i.e. death.[Tirmidhi]
The heart is tough and rough and what soften this tough and rough heart is if we remember and live for the Hereafter.
On the authority of Anas who said,
The Messenger, Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave us a sermon, the like of which we had never heard before. "If you knew what I know you would laugh little and weep much!" Thereupon the Companions of the Prophet (saw) covered their faces, weeping and sniffing[Bukhari and Muslim]
"When ‘Uthmân ibn 'Affan stood at a grave he would weep until his beard was wet. So it was said to him: "Indeed you make mention of Paradise and Hellfire and you do not weep, and you are weeping at this?". He replied, "Indeed the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "Verily the grave is the first abode of the Hereafter, if one is saved from it then what follows is made easier for him. And if one is not saved from it, then what follows is more severe". He also (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "I have never seen a sight more horrid than the grave"" (at-Tirmidhî, Ibn Mâjah)
We ask Allah to guide us and forgive all our sins. We ask Allah to save us from the punishment of the grave and the Hellfire. Ameen. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.
And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
