Respecting Parents is Respecting Allah, Disrespecting Parents is Disrespecting Allah

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

God Almighty has commanded us to give good and kind treatment towards our own parents and warned us against treating them with disrespect.

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (23)
[Qur'an Al-Isra' 17:23]

No word of disrespect should be uttered toward a parent, nor even a look of resentment or contempt. Even if you have a "cool" parent and they joke around with you, you still have to choose the best words when you want to say something to them. If you know certain word or expression is not good, don't use it, even it is acceptable in the certain society. Never mind what other people are doing or what your friends are doing or even if your parents don't seem to mind you using it.

Respecting parents is respecting Allah, disrespecting parents is disrespecting Allah.

Honoring parents can be considered a form of worship if the intention is to please the Almighty by respecting His commands.

Allah Almighty continues this verse by commanding us to be humble to our parents and to make du'a for them. His use of the word wing invokes the image of a mother bird tenderly shielding her young and calls to mind the gentleness that parents have for their children.

And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
[Qur'an Al-Isra' 17:24]

Abu Hurayrah radhiAllahu anhu was a close companion of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam; he is credited with remembering and transmitting many of the Prophets’ sayings.

The life of Abu Hurayrah also contains many demonstrations of his love and devotion to his mother. When he first embraced Islam, no amount of pleading could convince his mother to do the same. Weeping and afraid, Abu Hurayrah approached the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam and begged him to make supplication to God asking that his mother be guided. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam complied with this request and within a very short period of time Abu Hurayrah’s mother uttered the words, “There is no god except Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger”, thus embracing Islam.

Throughout his life, Abu Hurayrah remained kind and courteous to his mother. Whenever he wanted to leave home, he would stand at the door of her room and say, “Peace be on you mother, and the mercy and blessings of Allah.” She would reply, “And on you be peace, my son, and the mercy and blessings of Allah.” He would also say, “May Allah have mercy on you as you cared for me when I was small,” to which she would reply, “May Allah have mercy on you as you delivered me from error when I was old.”

May Allah have mercy on our parents and grant our children the knowledge and wisdom to worship Allah in the best manner. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
