Is It Worth It To Lie?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

If your child tells fibs it may be your fault. Youngsters who have been lied to are more likely to cheat and lie themselves, a study has found. Researchers warned that children were particularly likely to copy their parents – and said even white lies told with the best of intentions could backfire. Children don't stay children forever. One day they will grow up and come to know your lies.

Is it worth it to lie?

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.
[Bukhari]

Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
Truth leads one to Paradise and virtue leads one to Paradise and the person tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell, and the person tells a lie until he is recorded as a liar.
[Muslim]

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d: The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
Whoever guarantees me (the chastity of) what is between his legs (i.e. his private parts), and what is between his jaws (i.e., his tongue), I guarantee him Paradise.
[Bukhari]

Narrated Sufyan ibn Asid al-Hadrami: I heard the Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
It is great treachery that you should tell your brother something and have him believe you when you are lying.
[Sunan of Abu-Dawood]

Allah’s Apostle sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
The signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; and whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and whenever he is entrusted, he betrays (proves to be dishonest).
[Bukhari]

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting).
[Bukhari]

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wassallam observed: Three (are the persons) with whom Allah would neither speak, nor would He absolve them on the Day of Resurrection. Abu Mu’awiya added: He would not look at them and there is grievous torment for them: the aged adulterer, the liar king and the proud destitute. [Muslim]

Abdullah b. Mas’ud reported that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam said,
Should I inform you that slandering, that is in fact a tale-carrying which creates dissension amongst people, (and) he (further) said: The person tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and lie tells a lie until lie is recorded as a liar.
[Muslim]

Being religious is not just praying. We should not think saying la illaha illallah (There is no god except Allah) is sufficient for a believer. There is also obedience to Allah's commands, love of Allah and loyalty to Allah. Someone has all these wont' lie, even to kids.

May Allah protect us from lies and make us of those who are truthful. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
