Ramadhan Victory -- Restraining Anger

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Ramadhan Victory -- Restraining Anger

Allah Most High says,

خُذِ ٱلْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ

Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.
[Quran, Al A’raf 7:199]

One of  the most comprehensive counsels  given to Allah’s beloved Messenger (ﷺ) and to those who tread the path of being victorious servants of Allah, is to take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant, those who are acting in unreasonable ways, in annoying ways, or in ways likely to upset you. Don’t be angry.

Not getting angry does not mean not being moved when outrage occurs but rather not getting angry refers to not having negative anger for own self or ego. Positive anger is from the Prophetic sunnah, which is when there's something wrong or injustice that requires action, then the believer has positive anger, which is to be moved to rectify the wrong or injustice in order to establish what is right with strength but in a manner pleasing to Allah.

The Prophet (ﷺ) never got angry for his own self but if the limits of Allah or the limits of truth  were transgressed, the Prophet (ﷺ) would be angry but only in the ways that are beautiful and beloved to Allah.

So a key to victory is to control our negative emotions and to channel them only in the ways pleasing to Allah.
