A Ramadhan Resolution

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Tomorrow is already the middle of Sha'ban. Indeed, the blessed Ramadhan is fast approaching. This is an excellent opportunity to start observing hijab properly. If you resolve to do this and start now, you will find Ramadhan to be even greater and better for you than ever before inshaAllah.

The hijab (covering) is not only for women but also for men. As our first responsibility in hijab is to lower our gaze, covering would be an empty gesture if we don’t act modestly. One will not work without the other.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam said, “Zina (adultery) of the eyes is looking at [that] which is not allowed…” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Allah Almighty says,

Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. (30)
[Qur'an An-Nur 24:30].

On the authority of Jurayr: “I asked the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) about accidentally looking at something that is not allowed and he said, ‘Turn your eyes away.” [Muslim].

The hijab of women is revealed not only to protect themselves from being gazed at, but also for women not to purposely attract men’s attention.

Allah Almighty says,

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (31)
(Qur'an An-Nur 24:31).

You can expect difficulties when you start observing the hijab, but these difficulties are nothing compared to the inner peace it provides. Cover yourselves well, lower your gaze and uphold the boundaries between men and women that Allah gave us for our own benefit. You will have a source of joy and contentment that will always be with you inshaAllah.

We need to protect ourselves from the smallest act of zina and anything that could lead to zina, as Allah Almighty commanded:

And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse (zina). Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way. (32)
[Qur'an Al-Isra' 17:32]

May Allah grant us tawfiq, forgive our sins, enable us to forgive each other and make us reach Ramadhan with a pure heart. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
