When Afflicted With Calamity -- Du'a of Umm Salamah (R.A)

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Allah Almighty says,

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, (155) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." (156) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided. (157)
[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:155-157]

When we are afflicted with trials and hardships, then the story of the mother of the believers, Umm Salamah (radiAllahu anha), brings much comfort to the heart. It encourages us to build up our own strength and increase our trust in Allah, for surely He is the Best of Planners and Providers.

Du'a of Umm Salamah

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying, “When a person suffers from a calamity and utters:

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji`un. Allahumma ujurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khairan minha

(To Allah we belong and to Him is our return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with that which is better), then Allah will surely replace it for him with that which is better” Umm Salamah (radhiAllahu anha) said: When Abu Salamah (radhiAllahu anhu) died, I repeated the same supplication as the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had commanded me (to do), so Allah bestowed upon me a better substitute than him. [Muslim].

We ask Allah to grant mercy from Himself to us, our families, our loved ones and all those who are suffering all around the world.

May Allah save us from the trials and tribulations of this life and the next. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
