Come Beautiful Patience (Fa Sabrun Jameel)

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

When someone says sabr, you often hear the word jameel added to it. This famous phrase was used by Ya'qub (peace be upon him).

The story begins with the enmity between two groups of his own sons – one group consists of Yusuf and Benyamin, another group consists of his 10 older sons. These older sons were extremely jealous of Yusuf, and so one day they took him and threw him in a well, and then came back to their father weeping and saying that a wolf ate him. Ya'qub, who was very intelligent, guessed the real story.

Imagine your favorite son being harmed by your other sons, wouldn’t it make any sane person crazy in grief and rage? But what did Ya'qub say? 'fa sabrun jameel!"

Imagine how much trust in Allah you need to do that. This is what he said,

...come, beautiful patience! And Allah (Alone) Whose help can be sought against that which you describe. [Qur'an, Yusuf 12:18]

The story continues after many years, when the older brothers had to leave Benyamin in Egypt and return to the father without him. Ya'qub said 'fa sabrun jameel! '

...come, beautiful patience! Haply God will bring them all to me; He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.' [Qur'an, Yusuf 12:83]

If you need a shoulder to cry on who would be best to give you that shoulder? Follow Prophet Ya'qub (peace be upon him),

He (Ya'qub) said, "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you do not know. (86) [Qur'an, Yusuf 12:86]

Allah put you in whatever situation you are in. Run to Him. Show your sorrow and grief to Him only and

"...Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."  [Qur'an, Yusuf 12:87]

May Allah makes us among the patient and save us from the trials and tribulations of this life and the next. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and is Most Wise, and He alone grants success, and to Him is the final return of all.

Wassalaam
