Transforming Aching Heart to Tranquil Heart

Bismillah

Remembrance of Allah (dhikr) transforms the aching heart into a calm and tranquil heart, by Allah's mercy.

Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured. (Quran, Ra'd 13:28)

The best forms of remembrance are prayers and reciting the Qur'an.

Dhikr protects us, guides us, and changes our outlook on life. It gives us the strength to move forward beyond our painful tests because we know Allah is there as we recite the Quran or say SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise and thanks be to Allah), la ilaha illa Allah (There is no god worthy of worship but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is greater). It is a constant reminder that life is nothing but a journey to a better home.

This life is all about our dedication to constantly remembering Allah, thanking Him, and seeking beautiful patience, for us and for those around us. Its trusted companion is du'a: to seek His aid in times of both ease and hardship.

May Allah make us among the people of His remembrance. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

You Win When You Struggle

Bismillah

An elderly person who is suffering from cancer asked me to teach him to recite the Quran. But he has reservations that he could learn because he had tried learning from a Quran teacher before and failed ....He said, "I cannot bear the embarrassment any longer that I told him that I am quitting. You know after reciting about first 10 verses of Baqarah thrice with ustaz help I still cannot recite it on my own with ease. I will still struggling to spell and pronounce the word. See what I mean. So bad."

Learning, teaching, reading the Quran are of the best of good deeds, and when it is done for Allah, it is worship.

No amount of good deeds or worship guarantees you what you want. The first sign of faith is content with whatever Allah gives.

You make du'a not because you want it (the thing you are asking for) but because Allah loves to be asked because Allah loves to give. Allah will teach you patience along the way. When you start demanding from Allah then you start to see yourself as equal to Allah.

Anybody who can recite with ease after reciting 10 verses 3 times is from the bounty of Allah but there is no reason to be embarrased when you are not reciting well. Give it time. For some people it may take months to read surah al Fatiha alone correctly. Syrian teachers will not let you pass al Fatiha until it is read correctly -- e.g one of my teachers had to come back to his Shaykh 18 times for al Fatiha alone and both of them are Syrian Arabs. That's how serious they are with Quran. Because Quran is the words of Allah and it is paramount.

Frustration is part of learning but if you want something as great as Quran, you have to struggle more. The hadith said the one who struggle in reciting while learning Quran gets double reward for each letter.

Allah knows best.

Let's Read Surah Kahf Today (Friday) -- Alhamdulillah For The Quran

Bismillah

For Muslims, Friday is highlighted by the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf. This is from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

In this Surah, Allah Most High reminds us again that the everlasting abode is the Aakhirah (Hereafter).

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope. [Quran, al-Kahf 18:46]

If we are truly certain about this, then we won't worry ourselves with this dunya, accumulating wealth and trying to impress people, instead we will rush to good deeds.

Sometimes we forget that this is the fleeting dunya (world), the dunya wherein we will face trials, left, right, and center. But the Quran will help us face it with patience.

Alhamdulillah (All praise and thanks to Allah) for the Qur'an, a guidance for the believers and those conscious of Allah. [Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:1-2]

So let's make a habit of reading a portion of the Quran everyday and thank Allah for this gift of the Quran.

Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.

Ameen.

Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ala aalihi wasahbihi wassalaam

Emotions -- Powerful Gifts From Allah

Bismillah

Happy, sad,  love, hate, angry, calm, fear, confident, are some of human emotions.
Emotions are powerful gifts from Allah.
So use your emotions for what they are created for.
Don't ground your emotions on things that aren't worth it.
People might throw hurtful words at you or do something that might make you angry but letting them get to your emotions are too precious for that.
Don't allow yourself to get irritated with that aren't worth it.

Forgive Or Not To Forgive

Bismillah

The religion of Islam is a perfect religion. It takes into account the nature of humankind; after all, the One who created us knows us best.  We were not created perfect, we make mistakes, we forget, we sin, we fall prey to our emotions and hormones, and our sense of justice may not be as finely tuned as we might desire or think.

There are times to forgive and then there are times not to forgive, and we need to know when to do what.

Anybody who always ask for vengeance is going to execute himself, and anybody who teaches to always have to turn the other cheek will not be able to live up to it himself. The origin is to forgive but there are times forgiveness is not good and treachery is one such time.

"…punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient." (Quran 16:126)

"And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution.  But if anyone remits the retaliation by way of charity, it shall be for him an expiation. And whosoever does not judge by that which God has revealed, such are the wrongdoers." (Quran 5:45)

"…but whosoever forgives and makes amends, his reward is upon God." (Quran 42: 40)

"Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant." (Quran 7:199)

"Let them forgive and overlook: do you not wish that God should forgive you? For God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Quran 24:22)

"But if someone is steadfast and forgives, that is the most resolute course to follow." (Quran 42:43)

7 Golden Adab Of Seeking Knowledge

Bismillah

Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim. (Sunan ibn Majah)

7 Golden Adab of seeking knowledge

1. Have sincere intention (ikhlas) -- learning for the sake of Allah only
2. Study with ihsan (excellence)
3. Exhibit tawakkul (reliance upon Allah)
Allah says, 'I am as my slave expects Me to be."
4. Eliminate bad habits and manners
5. Always be grateful. Thank Allah
-- have respect for Muslim scholars and carriers of knowledge, and honor them
6. Engage in lots of istighfar and dhikrullah
7  Make du'a to Allah to help you to study with ihsan and make things easy for you, and other du'as.

O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety, sorrow, weakness, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpwered by men.

O Allah, increase me in knowledge

O Allah, there is nothing easy except what You make easy, and You make the difficult if it be Your Will.

May all the seekers of knowledge find the path to Jannah  Aameen

Learn Mirath (Islamic Law of Inheritance) -- Your Half of Knowledge

Bismillah

Learn the Islamic Law of Inheritance -- half of your knowledge

The law of inheritance is one of the most difficult subjects to learn. However, there is nothing difficult with Allah's help. Therefore, make du'a to Allah to make your journey easy

One of the keys of understanding sacred knowldge is what Allah mentions in the Quran.

And fear Allah. And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things. (Quran, al Baqarah 3:282)

So if you want the knowledge, Allah guaranteed that He will give it to you but with the condition that you should have taqwa. The taqwa here is to put your best effort to understand it and try to apply it.

There are many secrets in the law of inheritance. One of them is with the fact that Allah commanded us in the Quran to pray, fast, pay zakat and perform hajj (pillars of Islam). However, He did not explain the details in the Quran and leave it to the Sunnah. But when it comes to inheritance, He explains it in detail in the Quran. This to show the importance of mirath.

There are three things that Allah took care of them by Himself. He did not leave it to the people to figure out the division -- i.e zakat, booty (ghanima), inheritance. All these are related to money.

The first branch of knowledge to be taken away from the ummah is knowledge of inheritance. The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace), said:

“Learn inheritance and teach it for it is half the knowledge and it will be forgotten, and it is the first thing to be ripped from my Ummah.” [Ibn Majah 2710]

The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) also said:

"Learn inheritance and teach it to people for I am a mortal being and knowledge will decrease until two people would differ among themselves over inheritance, but wouldn’t find an arbitrator.” [Nisa’i 6305]

Omar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), used to say,

O People, learn Fara-idh with the same concern and effort with which you learn from the Qur'an.

It was also said that Umar said (in the meaning of), if you want to have play, play archery, if you want to speak, speak about mirath (inheritance).

All of these give us the indication of the importance of learning law of inheritance.

It is incumbent upon each of us to learn Islamic law of inheritance and apply it. Otherwise you might be denying the rights of certain people or you might be eating wealth that is unlawful for you if you take someone else's inheritance.

May Allah save us from ignorance and enable us to learn, teach and apply inheritance law properly, and save us and our families from the trials and tribulations in this life and the next. Ameen.

In Pursuit Of Happiness

Bismillah

Allah has made certain things halal for you and He knows that things that are halal for you are good for you, beneficial for you, and a blessing for you. And when you enjoy what Allah has made halal for you, actually that in of itself is an act of worship.

So when you get a job that is permissible, going to work is worship, spending your paycheck in halal food and clothes is worship, etc. By doing all that, you are not just benefitting yourself in this life, but you are also benefitting youself in the next life. In other words, you are actually building your next life too because you are within the boundary of halal. Every act that you do will give you happiness in this life and at the same time building you akhirah account.

But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters." (Quran, Al Qasas 28:77)

What does syaitan want you to do? Same thing he wanted our father Adam and our mother Hawwa to do. There were so many trees that were halal, but shaytan said that one tree will make you have a real good life -- the one that will make you real happy is the one that is haram.

What shaytan do to us is that he will make that one haram enticing eventhough all the halal is available in front of you.

Everything you need in this life, everything your body needs, there is a halal avenue for you. Spend your time, effort and money in a halal way and you will find happiness in this life and the next.

Allah made this world as a preview of paradise. There are trees, fruits, rivers, spouses, wine, servants, mansions, palm trees, good companions ... in paradise, though the paradise is beyond our imagination. But when the Quran talks about those things, we will have an idea because we have seen them or have some knowledge of them.

When Allah puts something halal on this earth, He puts something for you to enjoy.

It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things. (Quran, Al Baqarah 2:29)

And We have certainly established you upon the earth and made for you therein ways of livelihood. Little are you grateful. (Quran, Al Araf 7:10)

What shaytan will tell you is "if you stay within the halal, you will miss out." Remember, Allah is not going to let us miss out for what we were created for. How could you be grateful if you are miserable? You are grateful when you enjoy a blessing. Allah wants you to be grateful with His blessings. So Allah makes halal enjoyable in this life and the next life.

Halal is described as good and pure (toyyiba). It is good for you and it keeps you away from becoming impure.

If you want to be happy in this life and the next, stay withing the boundaries of halal.

To Know Is To Love -- Learn About Our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

Bismillah

Knowing Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam is loving him. Learning about his perfection and beauty is like planting the seed of his love in your hearts.

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah, you have the best example." (Quran 33:21)

There is nothing else that is easier than following the example of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam that will earn you the love of Allah Most High.

“Say (O Prophet): ‘If you really love Allah, then follow me, and Allah shall love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.’” (Quran, 3:31)

He was created to be a manifestation of beauty, kindness, mercy, and love. Would you not yearn to have a special place in that noble heart? Would you not want to be with the possessor of that heart? Would you not want to have such a heart?

This is the best time to commemorate the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, learn about him, listen to the beautiful descriptions of his noble features and gracious character with your families. This can help you rekindle your relationship with the Prophetic light by learning about him and his life.

Believe In Allah

Bismillah

What other miracle do you want to believe in Allah?

You are the walking, talking miracle from head to toe of the existence and power of Allah. The whole world around you is a miracle -- from the shining sun, the bright moon, the twinkling stars, to the blue waters and the green trees and the life around you, to the harmony that exists between all aspects of the creation. That is enough to indicate that Allah is Al Qawiyy, Al Hakeem, Al Aziz. He is the All Powerful, All Wise, All Mighty.

The fact that Allah gives you the faculties to appreciate these miracles is another miracle.

Say, "It is He who has produced you and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful." (Al Mulk 67:23)

Allah has shown us the miracle of His existence simply by the existence of the world around us and He has shown the Truth of Islam via the miracle of the Quran.

Allahumma salli 'ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wasahbihi wasallam

The Specialities Of Prophet S.A.W

Bismillah

Some of the specialities of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, that no other Prophets were given are
1. Allah made him the final Prophet, no more prophets after him

Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing. (Surah Al Ahzab 33:40)

2. Allah gave him the most powerful miracle, that is, the Quran. We believe in the miracles that were given to the other Prophets, like the splitting of the sea by Prophet Musa alayhissalaam, but we have no access to them, but the Quran is accessible to everyone until now. It can be recited and it can be heard.

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. (1) (Surah Al Kahf 18:1)

Alif, Lam, Meem. (1) This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - (2) (Surah Al Baqarah 2:1-2)

Allahumma salli 'ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wasahbihi wasallam

The Prophet Of Mercy

Bismillah

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam is the single greatest human being ever walked on the face of the earth. Allah has chosen him above the entire creation ana Allah has raised up his mentioning & remembrance.

And raised high for you your repute. (Al Sharh 94:4)

Allah has called the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam a mercy (Rahmah) to the worlds, the embodiment of  Rahmah.

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds. (Al Anbiya 21:107)

His sending, message (sunnah),  believing and actingi upon what he came with is Rahmah. There is no second on this earth that goes by execpt hundreds of millions of people are praising him. There is no person more praised the our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wasahbihi wassalam

Be Happy And Live Your Life To Please Allah

Bismillah

It's not easy to get along with people, even our close loved ones, but the reward is connected to the fact the it is not easy.  Remember, we are tests for each other.

You must learn not be fussy about things. You must learn not to want your way all the time. Be flexible. Be happy and live your life to please Allah.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]. (Quran, AleImran 3:102)

Benefit Your Moment Now

Bismillah

Benefit your moment now. Don't wait till later because later is one of the tricks of shaytan to keep you from benefitting all your moments.

By time, (1) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (2) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. (3) (Quran, Al Asr 103)

The Quran Is Coming To You -- Grab It

Bismillah

The Quran will bring you closer to Allah but you keep putting off reading or learning it.

Back then somebody might hear the Quran from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and somebody might not but today how many apps, youtube videos, websites, downloads, books that you can access Allah's message, explanation of the Quran and recitation of the Quran. There is no excuse.

The Quran is coming to you but you rather search something else. This person on Judgment will blame his friend for what he did.

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend. He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter." (Quran, Al Furqan 25:28-29)

You don't see the shaytan but he is always with you. He comes to you through waswasa (whispers), through your friend, through the screen on your mobile device. He will tell you 'I will give what you want, do whatever you like, I am looking out for you,' until Judgment Day, he deserted you. This is the trickery of shaytan. Don't be fooled. He will leave us at the right moment and give us all the motivation to do the wrong things.

Struggle

Bismillah

Victory is not granted just because you are a good Muslim, even if you are the best Muslim on earth like in the case of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Victory has to be struggled for. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam has to go through many struggles and sacrifices to gain victory. No one's rank is raised except through tests, pain and suffering, and patience.

Humiliation comes by turning away from the commands of Allah and His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and preferring this world over the next world.

These are the lessons from Battle of Uhud.
Mighty comes from sincerity, unity, and standing for the sake of Allah, even if you are outnumbered.

This is the lesson from the Battle of Badr.

Highway To Heaven -- Seeking Knowledge

Bismillah

One of the fastest ways of getting to Paradise is to seek knowledge. The virtue of a scholar over an ordinary worshipper is like the virtue of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam over the least of us.

Abu Darda reported: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said, “Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him the path to Paradise. Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars.” [Abi Dawud]

Depressed? Stressed Out? Feeling Sad? Unhappy? Problems?

Depressed? Stressed Out? Feeling Sad? Unhappy? Problems?

How we respond to the events and situations in our lives determine our lives. So don't get lost in the events and situations but remember the Creator of movements and stillness.

Say over and over again,

La hawla wala Quwwata illa bil lahi Al 'Aliyyil Atheem (There is no might or power except with Allah, The Most High, The Supreme [in Glory])

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.” (Sunan Ibn Majah - Hasan)

The amount of the reward is to the degree of the trials.

Take Benefit From Reminders

Bismillah

The Quran is full of reminders. Believers  benefit from reminders.

Allah talks in the Quran about people who get reminders, in fact the best reminders, but they didn't listen and chose to put them aside. We don't want to be one of those people. Solat, fasting, Jumu'ah, reading Quran, going to majlis of ilm is a just a routine thing, not an experience that are supposed to make us better Muslims. Nothing transform into actions. These are the kinds of people that don't benefit from reminders.

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, "Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way. (Quran, al Furqan 25:27)

Mending Broken Ties Between People

Bismillah

One of the goals of the shari'ah is to achieve unity in our ranks, and to make sure that our societies are as civil and as peaceful as possible. So Allah has legislated the bonds of brotherhood and made these bonds of the strongest of bonds, and Allah has legislated many things to facilitate unity among the ummah.

Among the aspects He has legislated and encouraged in the Quran and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam has encouraged in the Sunnah is an aspect that many of us do not avail ourselves to earn Allah's great reward. This is mending the relationship that are broken between two people, i.e. a third party steps in and mend the relationship.

The benefits of mending broken ties can be greater than waking up at night and pray tahajjud, reading the Quran or fasting. Tahajjud, fasting or reading Quran benefit you alone, but bringing people together brings benefit to the society.

No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward. (Surah An-Nisa 4:114)

The importance of mending broken ties was obvious after the Battle of Badr.

When the first booty of war were distributed to the Companions after the battle, certain aspects happened between them -- words were said, hearts had some pain, and some anger in the hearts. On the plains of the Battle of Badr, Allah revealed this first verse of Surah Anfal to mend bonds between them.

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allah and the Messenger." So fear Allah and amend that which is between you and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you should be believers. (Surah Al Anfal)

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam came out and brought all the Companions back together.

You can have iman and taqwa but fights and arguments can occur between Muslims.

What we should now? Every one of us must know two people that something has happened between them and they are not talking for months or years. Try to bring them back together. In ayah of Surah An-Nisa above, Allah says "hatch a plot", have a private meeting and bring them back together. The hatch a plot here is to have a secret or private meeting betwen you and one or two other people that know the two parties and together think of ways of bringing them together.

When our hearts are hurt by friends and relatives, ego starts to kick in, and it needs that subtle push by a third party to get back together.

That's why Allah had made mending broken ties a core of our religion. And that's why Allah has forbidden jealousy, gossip and talebearing because they cause dissension among people. Gossip comes from jealousy. We should stay away from them.
