In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Allah Most High says,
Alif, Lam, Meem. (1) This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - (2) Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them, (3) And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. (4) Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful. (5) (Quran, Al Baqarah)
Allah begins Surah Al-Baqarah with Alif Lam Meen, words that we can't even understand, which is important because it puts our attitude in check. We come to this Book not expecting that we know everything but we come to this Book understanding and acknowledging that we know nothing, that only Allah knows. Until you have this attitude, you will not be able to take in what guidance is supposed to be. Alif Lam Meen puts the human being in his place. You don't know what this is because this is not from human being but from a higher source. Allah only opens the doors of wisdom to whoever He wants. Whatever He wants you to know, He lets you know, whatever He does not want you to know, He keeps it hidden.
People who are looking for guidance, they will find it in the Quran and there is no doubt that Quran has it.
There are two permanent qualities that are given to the people of guidance-- al muttaqin (the people who are making an effort to protect themselves from the punishment and displeasure of Allah and protect themselves disappointing Allah) and al muflihun (the people who are successful in this world and the Hereafter).
May Allah guide us make us of the Muttaqin and the Muflihun. Ameen.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.
And Allah knows best and is Most Wise, and He alone grants success, and to Him is the final return of all.
Wassalaam
