In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
The character of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam is a big deal because Allah makes it a big deal in the Quran. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says in Surah Al Qalam,
And indeed, you are of a great moral character (khuluq). (4) [Quran, Al Qalam 68:4]
This ayah proves that Allah himself is impressed with the characteristics, the personality and the morals of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam before revelation. He praises the morals of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam before he became a Prophet and uses that as one of His proofs for his truthfulness.
Khuluq is how you deal with khalq (creation). Your dealings with creation makes up your khuluq. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam great quality that qualifies him for revelation is his great, awesome and incredible character.
Muslims love the Quran. We teach it, talk about it, recite and memorize it but what's missing from underneath is the character of Muslims. Our business dealings, political, economic, social, all of that are missiong moral character and you don't need advance degree in fiqh to have morality. You just need human conscience. And that is stripped from the Muslim communities today. In some Muslim areas, while you could see beautiful and some very grand masjids, hear beautiful adhans 5 times daily and beautiful recitation of the Quran in every corner, at the same time people don't know how to stand in a line, don't know how to talk to each other and don't care where they throw their trash. Where is the khuluq? There is something seriously wrong and we are not thinking about it and we are not teaching our children good manners.
Our religion is founded upon good moral character and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam was chosen because of his awesome character alone. But it's pretty much gone. We just have so many fundamental missing and we have to revive the Sunnah if we want to be strong again.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.[Quran, Al-Fath 48:29]
May Allah grant us noble character and make us of the righteous. Aamen.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.
And Allah knows best and is Most Wise, and He alone grants success, and to Him is the final return of all.
Wassalaam
