Passing The Life Tests
Allah says in Surah Al Balad,
We have certainly created man into hardship. (4) [Quran, Al Balad 90:4]
The first requirement to pass the difficult test is generosity. But this is not enough, the person must also have iman (Faith in Allah).
How have we perceived the religion to be? Our understanding of religiosity is primarily rituals. We forget the early Makkan surahs emphasized charity more than rituals. They emphasize kindness, giving to others and feeding others. Along with iman, they are helping others in patience and compassion, even while they themselves are in hardship and struggling. They are not selfish and only caring about themselves. Rather they are a source of good for others, giving people hope, advising them to be patient, giving them the patience they need, a kind word, maybe a generosity or just a shoulder to cry on, and showing compassion. These are the fortunate and blessed people. These are the ones who have passed the tests and saved themselves.
The opposite are those who have rejected Allah. They are the unfortunates. They are the ones who are going to be saddened, lacking any blessing. They will be punished in the fire that is surrounding them.
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? (12) It is the freeing of a slave (13) Or feeding on a day of severe hunger (14) An orphan of near relationship (15) Or a needy person in misery (16) And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. (17) Those are the companions of the right (18) But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. (19) Over them will be fire closed in. (20) [Quran, Al Balad 90:19-20]
Surah al Balad tells about the reality of why Allah created us and the arrogance of mankind, that no one should feel that they are doing something amazing if they are simply spending money. What you have of your blessings (your eyes, your tongue, your lips, etc) are more precious than all the money you have and you have them for free. All of these blessings we have Allah gave them. The response to these blessings should be that we are overcoming the struggles. And those struggles are what Allah tells us in the Quran -- being generous to others, helping people out, advising people and have iman in Allah.
May Allah increase us in iman and make us of the companions of the right. Aameen.

Run Towards Knowledge

Best Title -- Servant of Allah
Allah used to speak to Musa (peace be upon him) directly and Musa was the most knowledgeable during his time, and yet Allah told him to learn from somebody, with no mention of his name, who is more knowledgeable than him (Musa).
Allah says,
And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom we had given mercy from Us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge. [Quran, Al Kahf 18:65]
Here, Allah only mentioned that this person is among His servants whom He had taught. No name was given. One of the lessons here is that people who have reached the heights of knowledge are nothing more than servants of Allah. Allah refers to His beloved Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as His servant.
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. [Quran, Al Kahf 18:1]
So, we should not feel a sense of arrogance or entitlement to be called Professor,
Dr, Ustaz or Ustazah, Shaykh or Shaykhah or all those titles that this world
has honored us with. Be humble. Indeed, the best title is servant of
Allah.
May Allah make us of His humble servants. Aameen.

Finding Happiness In The Midst Of Trial
You can find the sweetest happiness in the midst of trial.
"Don't think that worry and sorrow are out of place as long as you are in
this world. It only brings forth what its attribute and quality demand."
[Hikam of Ibn Ata'illah)
"Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of
his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a
believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah),
thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and
shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in
it."
[Narrated by Muslim]
"The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from
whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind
becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is
afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his
difficulties). And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which
keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He
wishes."
[Narrated by Bukhari]
Indeed the only thing that would save one from trials and tribulations with Allah’s permission is correct knowledge. If you don’t gain correct knowledge, it is possible that you will fall into the trials and you won’t know that it’s a calamity. We seek knowledge from the people of knowledge, and we should not become lazy. When trials come, know it is a trial, so deal with it in an appropriate manner to the best of your ability.
"And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out
[Qur'an, At-Talaq 65:2]... And whoever fears Allah - He will make for
him of his matter ease." [Quran, At-Talaq 65:4]
Alif, Lam, Meem (1) Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried? (2) But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars. (3)
May Allah make us of those who are truthful and patient. May Allah save us from the trials and tribulations of this life and the next and grant us peace and tranquility. Ameen.

Love The Righteous
Love The Righteous
Imam Shafi'i said:
I love the righteous, although I'm not of them
Perhaps I shall receive intercession through them
And I hate he who trades in sins (deals in acts of disobedience)
Although we are both dealing in the same trade.
So Imam Ahmad responded:
You love the righteous and you are of them
And from you shall they receive intercession
And you hate he who trades in sins
May Allah protect us from the evil of such trade
May Allah make us of the righteous and grant us righteous spouses, offsprings, teachers, companions, neighbors, friends and leaders. Aameen.

Test Your Iman (Faith in Allah)
The Iman and the strength of our Iman changes from time to place. Just like the high blood pressure patients who must monitor their blood pressure level, it is imperative on every single one of us to monitor our Iman so it stays strong and not weakened until you lose it. Three things we have to be cognizant about:
1) Just because we tasted piety at one point, it does not mean that we shall remain pious throughout our lives. Allah says that don't be like those who were given the Book before you and as time went on their hearts became hard.
2) Iman is an active verb and so we must always nourish our iman and be vigilant that our iman does not go down.
3) Even if we have the blessing of piety, whether it was memorizing the Quran, gaining knowledge, or even a blessing that Allah has given you, it is possible that the blessing which at one point in time caused your Iman boost or take you to Allah, at another point in time it might actually become an impediment against strong Iman or take you away from Allah because you didn't have the right intentions or the right attitude, you misuse it, you become arrogant and jealous.
Check your piety:
1) Look at the quality of your worship when you are alone. The highest level of Iman is that you worship Allah in secret as you worship Allah in public.
2) How do you react in the face of calamity and tragedy. It is easy to fool yourself into a false sense of confidence. Iman is strong when things are good, when life is good, when everything is fine. What will happen at the first stroke of calamity? How much patience is manifested within the few minutes of hearing about the tragedy is the litmus test of Iman. Does your heart turn to Allah, do you take comfort in turning to Allah, making du'a, or is there an emptiness or a sense of complete rejection? Yes, it is painful but having Iman when tragedy happens, it links you to Allah immediately.
3) How do you treat other people, not so much about the people in the masjid, your acquaintances or colleagues, but how you treat the closest people in your lives -- your parents, spouse, children. What is your compassion and kindness when you are in the privacy of your household with your lifelong partners and family and what is your reaction when you have been provoked. How you treat them when your anger is boiling inside of you. This will truly show the level of your iman.
Protect our Iman by making an extra effort to be around people of Iman and befriend them. It's not good just to have taqwa if you have taqwa alone by yourself. That taqwa will whittle away and it is going to be constantly attacked. To fortify taqwa, be with the people of taqwa, go to the masjid, seek people in your neighborhood or locality that can become family friends for you and your children that are people of Iman and taqwa. Make sure that you associate with people who will make you better Muslims. The Prophet said that a person follows the religion od his friends so be careful who your friends are.
May Allah protect our Iman and increase us in Iman and grant us righteous friends and companions. Aameen.

There is never too much love ❤️
Abu Hurayra r.a. reported that the Prophe ﷺ said, "By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, you will not enter Paradise until you submit to Islam. And, you will not submit to Islam until you love one another. Extend the greeting to one another and you will love one another. Beware of hatred, for it is the razor. I do not tell you that it shaves the hair, but it shaves away the deen."
Mu'adh ibin Jabal r.a. reported: Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah, the Exalted, has said: 'For those who love one another for the sake of My Glory, there will be seats of light (on the Day of Resurrection), and they will be envied by the Prophets and martyrs". [Tirmidhi]

Get Married For The Better
Friday, November 4, 2022
Let's Read Surah Kahf Today (Friday) -- When Allah Loves You
Becoming Better People In Marriage
Marriage is half of the religion. Religion is good character. Man and woman get married because it brings people together. People who prioritize the marriage will become better people and all marriages are capable of succeeding but it needs a prophetic character. People who want to be better will grow as people through marriage. Such marriage completes his/her religion.
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted. [Quran, Al Hujurat 49:13]
Marriage is NOT supposed to be easy. It causes you to step out of your comfort zone. Sayyidina Omar radhiyallahu anhu said marry strangers. From that we understand that there is not much benefit in marrying into life you already know because you are not doing anything.
Islam is about dealing with people, not staying home idling, just letting the days pass without changing. Allah created us as a creation that changes (to the better of course).
Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous. [Quran, Al Furqan 26:74]

The Crime Of Arrogance
Bismillah
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam said that anybody who has even an ounce of arrogance in his heart shall not enter Paradise.
Arrogance is a state of feeling important, feeling that one has a special place. Arrogance is the reason behind many of the sins that a person commits. It is the worst crime you can commit because it causes you to commit every other crimes. If you think you are better than other people, or the religion, or if you think you don't need God, then what greater arrogance is that!
Everyone, in reality, is nothing. Every body is from dirt and will return to dirt. One's self is also in real need, and his life, health and property are not in his hands.
The cure of arrogance is being humble. If you have a little arrogance, don't leave it to grow. Be humble,
May Allah remove us from any arrogance. Aameen.
