How to Calm Our Hearts

How to Calm Our Hearts

When sadness and fear feel like a huge ocean inside our hearts, Surah al-Muzzammil teaches us to find calm by turning back to Allah, especially in the quiet moments of the night. Allah tells us:

“Stand [for prayer] at night, except a little—half of it, or a little less, or a little more. And recite the Qur’an slowly and clearly” (Quran, al-Muzzammil 73:2–4).

These ayahs remind us that peaceful worship softens the pain inside us and brings strength we cannot find anywhere else. Allah also says:

“And remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him completely” (Quran, al-Muzzammil 73:8).

And He promises,

“Truly, in the remembrance of Allah, hearts find rest” (Quran, Ar-Ra'd 13:28).

When we remember Him, the waves within us settle, and our hearts finally feel calm again.
