Dear Friends
I pray that you are well.
Alhamdulillah, my children and I had an an exhilarating weekend at the Reviving the Islamic Spirit conference in Long Beach, California, mashaAllah. For those who couldn't make it this time, inshaAllah you will be able to take your family to this convention next year. You learn a lot from this type of Islamic conference, if nothing else, you are in the company of many good and knowledgeable people, which is in itself a great boost to your Iman--which money can't buy!
Many of the things I heard were nothing new, and I am sure some of you who attended, feel the same, but we need to hear them over and over again. Our lives are full of repeats--albeit good or bad--but we don't mind repeating them. We have more than one child (that's a repeat), we choose the "wrong" spouse or friends more than once, we drive to work and back following the same route, we go to the same place for vacation. But when it comes to the deen and learning the deen, we don't like to repeat. When was the last time you learn how to pray or learn about prayers? For many people they never actually learn the prayers but simply follow the acts of others.
Qur'an is full of repetition. We are commanded to pray five times a day (but we can pray more if we desire nearness to Allah.) Why? Because we tend to forget a lot. Repetition is good for us so we are reminded of Allah when we forget.
One of the speakers at the conference talked about our responsibility in this life. Our foremost and important responsibility is to recognize Allah. Our relationship with Allah is not a few moments of worship but a deep relationship. We should strive to have this relationship with Allah, our Lord. The only way to have this deep relationship is through knowledge of Him. How can you know Him without learning and knowing His names and attributes? When you know Allah, you will love Him and all other love is subject to His love. You will want to do everything to please Him. Remember the sweetness of love that you experience with your spouse at one time? You have so much energy, nothing tires you for the sake of your love, everything is sweet. But when the honeymoon is over, the sweetness started to fade away and it becomes a normal thing, you take each other for granted, and for some it turns bitter. Not with Allah, if you fill your heart with the love of Allah, the sweetness stays and in fact it gets sweeter and sweeter, and He gives more and more. Your soul is always tranquil no matter what you experience outwardly.
May Allah brings us closer to Him and grant us that peace and tranquility in our hearts. Ameen. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

Earning a living

Assalaamu alaykum
I pray that you are well.
The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, one's prayers will not be answered while he is nourished unlawfully.
Allah the Almighty is good and accepts only that which is good. Allah has commanded the Faithful to do that which He commanded the Messengers, and the Almighty has said: O you Messengers! Eat of the good things and do right." And Allah Almighty has said: "O you who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you." Then he mentioned the case of a man who, having journeyed far, is disheveled and dusty and who spreads out his hands to the sky saying: O Lord! O Lord! -- while his food is unlawful, his drink unlawful, his clothing unlawful, and he is nourished unlawfully, so how can he be answered! (related by Muslim)
So it is extremely important to know the halal and haram in earning a living. The essence of earning a living is fearing Allah, living for the next life and having pure food in our bellies. If you obey the manners of earning a living, it will give you a sense of decency and people will love you and Allah will be generous with your provision. InshaAllah.
Your provision comes from Allah, and He gives to whomsoever He wills, and He expands and He constricts His provision to whomsoever He wills. Your boss (your employer, your buyer, your clients, etc.) is merely a tap that spits out what Allah already ordained for you. If you truly believe this, you will feel at ease and will be easy going, and no despair when the tap shuts off because it may be that Allah will use another tap. There will be no need to puff, exaggerate, lie, demean people, cheating, stealing, etc, violating the rules of Allah.
So whenever you go to work remind yourself "Allah is providing for me." If we remind ourselves of this and if Allah give us tawfiq, it changes the way that we work. The manifestation of relying on Allah is that you aren't greedy, you aren't up all night and all day hustling and bustling in trying to make money, ruining your worship, ruining your health and family, want to make more and more. The point is to give everything its due, not being the first in and the last out, not looking at the clock but avoid having this over eagerness as if you are responsible for the provision. Earn your living with dignity and put your best efforts. The rest leave it to Allah, the All-Knowing, the All-Seer.
"Those in truth are the believers; they have degrees with their Lord, and forgiveness, and generous provision." Qur'an Anfal 8:4
"No creature is there crawling on the earth, but its provision rests on God; He knows its lodging-place and its repository. All is in a Manifest Book." Qur'an Hud 11:6
"God outspreads and straitens His provision unto whomsoever He will. They rejoice in this present life; and this present life, beside the world to come, is naught but passing enjoyment." Qur'an Ar-Ra'd 13:26
"Say: 'My Lord outspreads and straitens His provision to whomsoever He will, but most men do not know it.'" Qur'an Saba 34:36
"Say: 'My Lord outspreads and straitens His provision to whomsoever He will of His servants; and whatever thing you shall expend, He will replace it. He is the best of providers.'" Qur'an Saba 34:39
"Do they know that God outspreads and straitens His provision to whomsoever He will? Surely in that are signs for a people who believe." Qur'an Az-Zumar 39"52

Intimate conversation

Assalaamu alaykum
I pray that you are well.
Whatever Allah commands us to do--whether He tells us to do something or not to do something--it is not for Him. He doesn't need us and He doesn't need our worship. He is free of need. We are not even a dot even as a group that we should think if we don't worship Him that He would mind. We are the ones who is in dire need of Him. We want Him to love us.
When He asks us to pray 5 times a day, it is totally for our benefit. If you think you don't need Him, that you have your parents taking care of things for you, you have a nice husband who pampers you, a loving wife who give you warmth at night, your children who will take care of you when you are old, you have your boss giving you your paycheck and put food on your table, you have lots of great friends who lend their ears for you, wait when He takes your parents away or your husband away or your wife away, or your children away, or your boss fired you or He take your friends away--death, divorce, and other forms of separation, perhaps as a test for you, perhaps as your punishment. Allah knows best. What will happen to you? Where will you go then? If Allah have mercy on you, you will realize that you have misdirected your focus all along and Allah wants you to come back on course, that He alone do you worship and He alone do you seek help, and your mother, your father, your children, your husband, your wife, your boss, your friends and so on are merely means for you to worship Him and come close to Him.
So, before they are taken away, be close to the One and only One. So when the day comes, when Allah take them away from you, you are prepared. You know you have someone who will always be with you and someone you can turn to, and the loss won't be too upside down for you. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by the means so that you cannot be close to Him, cannot worship Him properly, cannot pray on time and for some who don't even pray, may Allah guide them.
I want to mention a little bit about prayer. No one is excused from prayer. Even in battles, the Muslims prayed at its time, which shows us how important this obligation is. What excuse do those who are sitting in the comfort of their homes or those who are busy seeking the pleasures of this world have for not praying on time? All other forms of obligatory worship have conditions in which one don't have to do it--e.g. if one doesn't have the resource, one is not obligated to perform hajj. if one is ill, one doesn't have to fast that day, if one doesn't have money, one doesn't pay zakat. Prayer is the most important pillar of your faith. If this pillar is shaky or weak and not tended to it will eventually gone, it is a like a main pillar of the house if it is weak--the house will quickly collapse. So don't let this happen. Be grateful that you still have Iman and nurture it with more presence of heart during prayer and with more prayers (including the emphasized sunna prayers and night prayers.)
If you pray out of feeling of neediness, fear, awe, hope, gratitude, love of the Lord, then you will find solace and comfort. There was a story of a companion who carried on with his prayer despite enemy arrows were being shot at him one after another! Another, had his leg amputated without anesthesia while he was in sujud. There are many examples of our pious predecessors and perhaps you know many many people still alive who find prayer the coolness of their eyes. You should have this desire to be like them. At the minimum, rush to prayer when the time comes or sit and wait anxiously to pray before the time even entered. Humble yourself to your Lord, take your time in every movement (don't be a woodpecker) and show your neediness. Prayer is where you are the closest to your Lord.
When you recite the Al-Fatiha at least 17 times a day during 5 obligatory prayers, you are having an intimate conversation with the Lord of the Worlds, the All Merciful, All Compassionate, All Generous. Why wouldn't you rush and leave everything and focus on Him alone?
Allah the Exalted says: I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks. When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me. And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has extolled Me. And when he (the worshiper) says: You alone do we worship and your help alone we seek, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for. Then, when he (the worshiper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom Thou hast been Gracious not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks. (related by Muslim)
May Allah make us understand our responsibilities and fulfill them with excellence. Ameen. Please remember me in your night prayers.

"If you love Allah, love me"

Dear Friends
I pray that you are well and in high spirits of Iman. Ameen.
Narrated Aisha, Allah be pleased with her: The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to offer prayer at night (for such a long time) that his feet used to crack. I said, "O Allah's Messenger! Why do you do it since Allah has forgiven you your faults of the past and those to follow?" He said, "Shouldn't I love to be a thankful slave (of Allah)?' When he became old, he prayed while sitting, but if he wanted to perform a bowing, he would get up, recite (some other verses) and then perform the bowing. (Bukhari)
Narrated Aisha, Allah be pleased with her: I heard the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and listened to him before his death while he was leaning his back on me and saying, "O Allah! Forgive me, and bestow Your Mercy on me, and let me meet the companions." (Bukhari)
This is our beloved Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, a thankful and humble slave of Allah, who we should love and strive to emulate him. And Allah will love us and forgive our sins. InshaAllah.
"Say: 'If you love Allah, follow me, and Allah will love you, and forgive you your sins; Allah is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.' Qur'an AleImran 3:31
May Allah increase our love for the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, and give us tawfiq. Ameen.

Beauties of Islam

Assalaamu alaykum
One of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, Khalid ibn Al Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated the following:
A Bedouin came one day to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said to him, "O, Messenger of Allah! I've come to ask you a few questions about the affairs of this life and the Hereafter. "
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, responded, "Ask what you wish."
* I'd like to be the most learned of men.
* Fear Allah, and you will be the most learned of men.
* I wish to be the richest man in the world.
* Be contented, and you will be the richest man in the world.
* I'd like to be the most just man.
* Desire for others what you desire for yourself, and you will be the most just of men.
* I want to be the best of men.
* Do good to others and you will be the best of men.
* I wish to be the most favored by Allah.
* Engage much in Allah's praise, and you will be most favored by Him.
* I'd like to complete my faith.
* If you have good manners you will complete your faith.
* I wish to be among those who do good.
* Adore Allah as if you see Him. If you don't see Him, Know that He sees you. In this way you will be among those who do good.
* I wish to be obedient to Allah.
* If you observe Allah's commands you will be obedient.
* I'd like to be free from all sins.
* Bathe yourself from impurity and you will be free from all sins.
* I'd like to be raised on the Day of Judgment in the light.
* Don't wrong yourself or any other creature, and you will be raised on the Day of Judgment in the light.
* I'd like Allah to bestow His mercy on me.
* If you have mercy on yourself and on others, Allah will grant you mercy on the Day of Judgment.
* I'd like my sins to be very few.
If you seek the forgiveness of Allah as much as you can, your sins will be very few.
I'd like to be the most honorable man.
If you do not complain to any fellow creature, you will be the most honorable of men.
I'd like to be the strongest of men.
If you put your trust in Allah, you will be the strongest of men.
I'd like to enlarge my provision.
If you keep yourself pure, Allah will enlarge your provision.
I'd like to be loved by Allah and His messenger.
If you love what Allah and His messenger love, you will be among their beloved ones.
I wish to be safe from Allah's wrath on the Day of Judgment.
If you do not lose your temper with any of your fellow creatures, you will be safe from the wrath of Allah on the Day of Judgment.
I'd like my prayers to be responded.
If you avoid forbidden actions your prayers will be responded.
I'd like Allah not to disgrace me on the Day of Judgment.
If you guard your chastity, Allah will not disgrace you on the Day of Judgment.
I'd like Allah to provide me with a protective covering on the Day of Judgment.
Do not uncover your fellow peoples faults, and Allah will provide you with a covering protection on the Day of Judgment.
What will save me from sins?
Tears, humility and illness.
What are the best deeds in the eyes of Allah?
Gentle manners, modesty and patience.
What are the worst evils in the eyes of Allah?
Hot temper and miserliness.
What alleviates the wrath of Allah in this life and in the Hereafter?
Concealed charity and kindness to relatives.
What extinguishes hell's fires on the Day of Judgment?
Patience in adversity and misfortunes.
Imam Al Mustaghfiri said: "I have never heard a tradition more comprehensive of the beauties of religion, and more beneficial than this hadith. It collects all the good things of Islam but not put to use." (Related by Imam Ibn Hambal)

Hot temper and miserliness.
What alleviates the wrath of Allah in this life and in the Hereafter?
Concealed charity and kindness to relatives.
What extinguishes hell's fires on the Day of Judgment?
Patience in adversity and misfortunes.
Imam Al Mustaghfiri said: "I have never heard a tradition more comprehensive of the beauties of religion, and more beneficial than this hadith. It collects all the good things of Islam but not put to use." (Related by Imam Ibn Hambal)
