Take Off Your Shoes

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

A believer has a concern for cleanliness, is good mannered and tactful. He has a sense of humility and not self-centered.

In maintaining that sense of cleanliness, the proper practice is to take off your shoes when entering someone's house unless the host insists that you keep them on.

The Islamic manner is that you don't wear outside shoes around the house. Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, used to serve the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, and one of his functions was keeping the sandals of the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace.

When you take your shoes off, take them off in a proper manner and place. Take off the left shoe first and then the right, and keep them close together and line them up in a proper way.

If your shoes are dirty, brush off the dirt so they are in presentable appearance. Don't bring dirt or mud into somebody's house (and driveway). It is not in the excellence of our faith to inconvenient our host who has to clean after us.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, told us not to put on our shoes while standing (if your shoes requiring tying). Sit down or lean against something and get into a dignified fashion. Don't be bending with your rear up in the air or facing others while trying to tie your shoes. When you put on your shoes, it is sunnah to say Bismillah and thank Allah for the blessing of shoes.

May Allah make us from those who uphold the sunnah of the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
