Youtube Tribulation

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Every speech and action that is haram (unlawful or prohibited), it is obligatory to cover the ears from hearing it and lower our gaze from looking the haram.

With the fitnah (tribulation) of the Youtube, where people can watch all kinds of things all the time, we have to be conscious of how we spend our time and be very selective in what we watch so we don't fall into sin.

If it is haram to say, it is haram to listen to it. Likewise, if it is haram to do, it is haram to look at it.

There are various unlawful speech (backbiting, slandering, bad language, cursing, lying, mocking, excessive joking, etc.) and unlawful actions (touching between non-mahrams, showing awra (nakedness), hitting/punching on the face like in boxing/wrestling, animal fighting, animal torture, drinking, gambling, killing people, playing unlawful music, etc.) found on what are shown on Youtube. It is not permissible to listen to or look at these things. If you happen to come across such things, you should not stop and watch, and you should not be pleased with it and enjoy it. But it is imperative that you close the page and say astaghfirullah (I seek Allah's forgiveness.)

So be very careful not to fall into the trap of shaytan and your own lower self. Don't let your small children get accustomed to electronic media. As for older children/youths, the best way to get them off these things is to teach them to love Allah and His Messenger, Allah bless him and grant him peace.

Ghiba (bacbiting) is a major sin and it is great tribulation in our society. This is prevalent on electronic media, such as the Youtube. Be wary that you might fall into this major sin because you are watching and listening to people doing ghiba on the screen. Don't catch yourself in partner with them.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said that the one who listens to someone backbiting is a partner of the one saying it.

Allah says,
وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ ﴿١

Woe unto every backbiter, slanderer, (1)
[Qur'an Al-Humaza 104:1]

If you are not actively stopping the person from engaging in the backbiting, you should hate it and walk away.

May Allah save us and our families from the tribulations of this life and the next. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
