Making The Right Choices

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

We make hundreds of choices everyday responding to many different situations. The choices we make today will affect our life tomorrow. Some of the choices we make today will have a lasting impact on our lives far into the future.

You can choose to eat halal or to eat haram or the doubtful, or you can choose to get angry or be patient, or you can be silent or backbite or argue, or you can choose to marry or remain single and finish your studies, or you can choose to study law or religion, or you can choose to buy a house with interest or rent, and so on. For each choice, do you have Allah in mind or you turn away from Allah?

Often we aren’t even aware that we are making choices. We are simply surviving – getting by – and trying to make it through the day. We aren’t thinking about our vision for our future. We are thinking about what to cook for dinner or what time the kids need to be picked up or whether we have time to finish that project for work that is due the next day or wonder if we have time time to finish studying for the upcoming exam. During this time are you thinking about your Hereafter?

Becoming aware of the choices you make on a daily basis is the first step to creating change in your life. When you recognize that you are about to make a choice – ask yourself this question: Is this choice going to take me closer to Allah or further away from Allah? One harmful choice usually leads to another and another...

Sometimes you are caught between a rock and a hard place. You are in a serious dilemma. How do you make the choice? If I choose one over the other, can I live with that decision, will I be happy? I don't know but Allah knows.

So remember Allah. Turn to Him, the Muqtadir (the Omnipotent, the Powerful Determiner.) He controls every situation. The decree of Al-Muqtadir comes from perfect knowledge and power. His decree prevails in every situation.

Al-Muqtadir gives money, power, intelligence and beauty to people, but He decrees true peace of mind to His believers only.

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (28)
[Qur'an Ar-Ra'd 13:28]

So with every choice you make throughout your day, remember Allah.

Never depend on your own powers (intelligence, strength, wealth, knowledge, influence, friends, etc.). Our tawfiq (ability) is from Al-Muqtadir only. Your success is not because of yourself but because He enabled you to accomplish matters. When you show your need for Him, Al-Muqtadir will support you but when you think you can depend on your own power for even the blink of an eye, He will abandon you.
وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سَبَقُوا ۚ إِنَّهُمْ لَا يُعْجِزُونَ ﴿٥٩

And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allah]. (59)
[Qur'an Al-Anfal 8:59]

Humble yourself to the Muqtadir and He will guide you to make the right choices and give you peace of mind.

May Allah save us from arrogance and adorn us with tranquil hearts who remember Him abundantly. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
