Angel Jibril Supplicated Against 3 Kinds of People and Ameen by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) ascended the minbar and said: “Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.” It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the minbar and said, ‘Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.” He said: “Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me and said: ‘If Ramadhan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘O Muhammad, if both or one of a person’s parents are alive and he does not honor them and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘If you are mentioned in a person’s presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen.”

Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, 3/188; classed as saheeh by al-Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1679.

How unfortunate and miserable are these three kinds of people against whom Jibril has supplicated that they be turned away from the Mercy of Allah, and the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) has said, 'Ameen,' for this supplication.

Sending Salawat upon the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) is a form of honoring and respecting him. He, who honors the beloved Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace), He bestows him with respect and reputation and he, who does not hold the Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) in high esteem, Allah brings upon him humiliation and shame.

Similarly, Ramadhan is one of Allah's most esteemed months, regarding which Allah, Himself says,

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion (between right and wrong)...
[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:185]

He, who is bestowed with the opportunity to honor this sacred month, and performs the deeds of Ramadhan with Ihsan (to perform acts for the sake of Allah Alone) and Ihtisab (to seek the reward of one's deeds from Allah Alone), then Allah dignifies him. And he, who does not respect this sacred month, Allah disgraces him.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said,

"He who observes fasting during the month of Ramadhan with Faith while seeking its reward from Allah, will have his past sins forgiven."

"He who observes optional prayer (Tarawih prayers) throughout Ramadhan, out of sincerity of Faith and in the hope of earning reward will have his past sins pardoned."

"Whosoever performs Qiyam during Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), with Faith and being hopeful of Allah's reward, will have his former sins forgiven."

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

As far as respecting one's parents is concerned, then in it is reverence to Allah. This is why Allah mentioned excellent treatment (Ihsan) towards one's parents along with His Tawheed and worship in the verse,

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, excellent treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (23)
[Qur'an, Al-Isra' 17:23]

Thus, if one does not take advantage of the opportunity of serving his parents, especially when he finds them in their old age, then the deeds of such a person qualify him to be humiliated.

May Allah protect us from being among these 3 kinds of people. May Allah increase our love for His beloved Messenger sallallahu alayhi wassallam. May Allah make us among His people of the Qur'an. May Allah help us respect our parents and treat them with excellence. May Allah enable us to reach Ramadhan with complete forgiveness from Him and excellent health and to worship Him well. Ameen.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wassallam.

And Allah knows best and He alone grant success.

Wassalaam
