Showing Gratitude For The Blessing of Parents

Bismillah

Parents are blessings from Allah to you. If you are not grateful to your parents, you are not grateful to Allah for He, the All Wise, who chose them to be your parents and placed you temporarily under their care and guidance.

Part of being grateful is to appreciate the blessing.  Allah taught us how to appreciate the blessing of parents ---

And your Lord has commanded you not to worship anyone other than Allah, and treat parents with benevolence. If either or both of them attain old age in your presence, then do not say even “Ugh!” to them nor reproach them.  And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."  (Quran, Al Isra 17:23-24)

So the next time you have an argument with your parents or you feel that they just don’t understand you, don't raise your voice at them, but really try to talk to them, and understand that, from their perspective, not only do they want to protect you, but they have the duty to guide you and make sure that you are making the right choices for yourself.

Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous

May Allah make us of those who are grateful, and help us be righteous children, the coolness of the eyes of our parents. Aameen
