Friends

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Don't think that only we humans have friends. Cats do to. Cats miss their cat friends, I think more than humans with their friends. SubhanAllah.

We had the opportunity to cat sit Raya, our friend's 11 month old cat. Earlier on last year, our friend took care of Kitty for 3 months. Kitty was about 4 months old and Raya was about 5 or 6 months old then. It was during this time when Kitty and Raya became friends.

When Raya was brought to our home about a month ago, it was obvious they knew each other. They touched noses, a friendly greeting for cats. They seemed to enjoy each other's company and it was quite interesting to see how they played and acted with each other,

sharing,

sitting and thinking together,

or simply staying close,

but mindful of each other's space

Yesterday evening, our friend came and picked up Raya.

Kitty is obviously very sad separating from his friend. He can't even put his head up!

He is missing his friend very much, who used to like the same spot...

Kitty cried most of the night and stood by the front door a lot since Raya left. I gently rubbed his body, trying to comfort him, and said, "It's ok Kitty, mommy is here." And he looked at me. I can feel his pain.

When there is a true friendship between cats; then the cats have made a bond that is noticed when it is broken (i.e. when they have to be separated). Cats friendships are subtle. They are more than simply "getting along." They are deep, lasting, beautiful relationships, and that should always be the goal of us humans--another lesson from the felines.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, lists seven types of people who will "enjoy Allah's shelter on the Day when there is no shelter other than His." These include: "Two men who love each other for Allah's sake, they meet and separate with this bond between them."

May Allah unite the Muslims and bring peace to the world. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
