Seeing Life in a Different Light

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

As Muslims, we have a broad perspective of life. We are not constricted to the narrowness of this world. We are not in the dark. We have the Qur'an to guide us.

Without Qur'an, we would not be able to understand the purpose of this life. We see a very skewed view on life. Somehow money comes to people's minds often and they can't see much of anything else. They fantasize having loads of money and having a great job and high positions and becoming rich, famous and popular, living a glamourous life of the rich and famous, attracting beautiful women (rich men). They grab everything they could put their hands on, from whoever, wherever and using whatever means. They live to eat--and they overfill their stomachs like there is no tomorrow. Obviously, these people don't have a clue about the consequences of their actions, don't know what is halal and what is haram, most don't care. Why? Because they are living only for the moment.

When we recite the Qur'an, we see the entire span of creation in front of our eyes--the heavens and the earth, the Prophets (started with Adam, Allah grant him peace, to Muhammad Rasulullah, Allah bless him and grant him peace), the nations before us (Fir'aun, Bani Israel, people of Salih, Hud, Shu'aib, Nuh, etc), and the future (death, life in the grave, resurrection, Day of Judgment, Paradise and Hell.)

With Qur'an, we see the vastness of this life and the afterlife. We see things in a different light. No longer money becomes our concern, no longer we worry about what people would say to us when we try to do something good, no falling into depression. We don't give up so soon when something turn out difficult. Allah is the Creator of everything and to Him we shall return. "...And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed." (Hadith Qudsi related by Bukhari)

If you have Faith, Taqwa and patience, you will succeed in the good you want to do, no matter how impossible that task may seem, no matter what eyes may see and what ears may hear.

Remember, the story of Musa, Allah grant him peace, and his people--the sea was in front of them and Fir'aun and his army were pursuing them? His people were afraid and said, "We are sure to be overtaken!". But Musa turned to Allah to guide him (to show him some way of escape from the danger). Fir'aun was drowned and Musa and his people were taken across the sea safely. Surely, the faith of Musa stands in strong contrast to the fears of his people.

There are many many stories in the Qur'an which are meant for us to learn from and guide us through our lives. That is why it is recommended to recite the Qur'an everyday. The closer you are with the Qur'an, the easier your life will be. The blessings of reciting Allah's Speech are tremendous. If you start now, you are ahead of those who haven't started or have slackened. Don't procrastinate.
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٢
This is the Book (the Qur'an) about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -
[Qur'an Al-Baqarah 2:2]

This life is a journey, not a destination. It is a journey home to our Creator. So travel to Him in whatever state you are in, paralyzed, broken bones, broken heart, healthy, wealthy, but don't wait until everything is fine or everything is gone.

"Recite the Qur'an, for on the Day of Judgment it will come to intercede for its companion." [Muslim]

May Allah make our journey safe and easy, and make our lives fill with His Light. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
