In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
The fear of Allah (taqwa) is the beginning of true knowledge.
Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:282]
... And fear Allah. And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things. (282)
You can learn all the Qur'an you want, but real knowledge comes from taqwa. You can read all the tafsirs you want, but real tafsir and real understanding will come from taqwa. And this may be a hope for the later generations - may Allah have mercy on them, guide them, give them patience and let us meet them in the highest abode - when all scholars have gone. If you have taqwa, Allah will teach you, personally.
"Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people but rather he takes away knowledge with the death of the scholars until he leaves no scholar behind and the people turn to the ignorant as their leaders. They are asked to give religious judgments without knowledge, thus they are led astray and lead others astray.” [Bukhari, Muslim]
May Allah allow us to experience the depths and realities of taqwa, and its fruits that Allah has generously offered. Ameen.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.
And Allah knows best and He alone grants success.
Wassalaam
