Our Journey to Allah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Our life on this earth is ever decreasing, not increasing. Every breath and every moment brings you closer to your true destination. What are your provisions on this journey?

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ ﴿٥٧﴾ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ غُرَفًا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ نِعْمَ أَجْرُ ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ ﴿٥٨﴾ ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ﴿٥٩

Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned. (57) And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - We will surely assign to them of Paradise [elevated] chambers beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers (58) Who have been patient and upon their Lord rely. (59)

Allah created death once. Only on this earth. That is the moment when you die. That is the moment when you meet Him. What have you prepared for this journey?

When you plan to go for a job interview, or plan an event, or to meet someone big or famous, or to go on a trip or a vacation, you plan and prepare for days, weeks, months, maybe years (like the Olympics). What about your journey to Allah, to the Lord of the worlds? What about the afterlife, the world with so much unknown, when you will never die again?

That Day, a day likened to be fifty thousand earth years, where the sun is so close over your head, what should you do now to escape from the torment of that Day; to not feel thirsty and hungry on that Day; to be happy on that Day; to not fear on that Day; to be in the company of the Prophets, the siddiqeen (the truthful), the shuhada' (martyrs), the soliheen (righteous); to have a rank that is even loved or desired by the Prophets; to sit next to the beloved of Allah, the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace)? These are some of the critical questions you need to ask yourself and do something about it before you move to the next world, the move you can't postpone no matter how busy or how great you are now.

The journey to Allah begins with the guidance and example of the Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and ends with the company and intercession of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace).

When seeking the Truth, no one has answers like the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace). So let's learn the Prophetic teachings wholeheartedly and act upon them sincerely so that our journey is based on guidance and leads to an everlasting success and happiness, inshaa Allah.

We need good friends during this journey. Such a friend will remind us of Allah. A good companion is someone whose heart is attached to Allah and detached from this world. If you have a friend like this, hold on tight to that person, because someone like this is very hard to come by nowadays.

May Allah grant us tawfiq to the highest station and save us from the torment of that Day and the Hellfire.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

And Allah knows best and is Most Wise, and He alone grants success, and to Him is the final return of all.
