Du'a Is The Essence Of Worship

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

A relationship which purely and truly shows what we belief about Allah is our reliance on Allah and satisfaction with Him. This is one of the most fundamental relationship with Allah, Most High. That's why the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Du'a is the essence of worship."

Some Muslims feel that I feel greedy asking things for myself. But they don't understand the real secret in the du'a is not give me a job, give me a car, give me a beautiful wife/righteous spouse, give me a son/righteous offspring, take me to your House, cure my mother, help me pay my debt, help me pass my exam, and so on. The secret of the du'a is not in this thing that you have been asking for but it is in the asking itself.

The act of asking shows a tremendous certitude. The idea that you raised your hands so that someone who you don't see will give you what you want or solve all your problems for you, no one can do that consistently, believe in it and truly believe that this matter will come to pass except someone with a tremendous Iman.

That's how for some people miracles happen with a du'a. The du'a is the place for miracles for everyone. How many people prayed for what they thought was impossible and then it happened. That is the strongest daily proof people have of their relationship with Allah.

Prophet Ibrahim, Allah grant him peace, left his wife and baby Ismail in a desert valley where there was no vegetation. How did he do that except he realized the power of the Lord. He turned to Allah to care for his family and Allah answered his du'a.

Allah really does see us and hear us. When we speak to Him, He answers.

"And When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on Me: Let them also, with a will, listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way."

(Qur'an al-Baqarah 2:186)

Allah makes us feel ashamed because He is completely free of need and we are completely needy of Him but despite of that He answered when you call. He needs nothing from us. He answers us out of His mercy. So why don't you answer when He calls. He calls us to obedience. He calls us to action.

Among the secrets of du'as are answered is a lawful income and life of obedience. Somebody who has surrendered to Allah, He is kind to that person and He will not let that person down.

Du'a is an excellent worship, so ask Allah for everything, no matter how small and no matter how great. Keep asking and asking because of the closeness to Allah and certitude that the du'a contains.

May Allah increase us in our worship and certitude. Ameen. Please keep us in your night prayers. JazakAllahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam

  1. The essence of making doas is the reliance on Allah (SWT) as the absolute being who alone can truly listen to our calls, hear our agonies and capable of fulfilling our wishes. Doas functioned as a recognition of an unseen superior existence, coupled with trust and reliability.
