In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
Dear Friends
I pray that you are well.
Reflection is to arrange things in a manner that leads to new knowledge. Allah asks us to reflect on the heavens and the earth and everything that He has created. This will lead to a conclusion -- that Allah created everything around us and that once upon a time the universe did not exist.
Allah Almighty says,
[Qur'an As-Sajda 32:4]
It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six days; then He established Himself above the Throne. You have not besides Him any protector or any intercessor; so will you not be reminded? (4)
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. (190) Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (191)
We should have a regular devotion (wird) of reflection in every 24 hours, for which we should set aside one or more hours.
The aim and spirit of regular devotions (awrad) is presence with Allah. Aim for it, you will reach it only if you travel the road that leads to it.
1. Reflect on yourself
2. Reflect on the wondrous creatures -- the great kingdom of the heavens and the earth
3. Reflect on the favors of Allah
4. Reflect on Allah's complete awareness of you, and His seeing and knowing all about you
5. Reflect on this worldly life, its numerous preoccupation, hazards, and the swiftness with which it perishes, and upon the hereafter, and its felicity and permanence
6. Reflect on the imminence of death and the regret and remorse which occur when it is too late. When you know you are going to die, it propels you to guidance.
7. Reflect on those attributes and acts by which Allah has described His friends and His enemies, and on the immediate and delayed rewards and He has prepared for each group.
With each kind of reflection, bring to mind verses, hadiths and other narratives relating to it.
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers. (192) Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. (193) Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise." (194)
May Allah increase us in Iman. Ameen.
Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.
And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
