In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
Dear Friends
The highest state any human being has reached is when the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) goes in the company of Allah Almighty during al-Isra' wa al-Mi'raj (midnight journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and the Ascent to the heavens). This journey signal honor and distinctive miracle of the beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wassallam). Yet the term Allah used to honor him (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) at that highest place is that we associate with no status at all, that is 'abd (slave).
[Qur'an, Al-Isra' 15:1]
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing. (1)
The word: بِعَبْدِهِ (bi'abdihi: His slave) used here for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) is special. It shows that, in this magnificent setting of honor and welcome, when Allah, on His own, elects to call someone 'His slave', a unique bond of love lies embedded therein and that this is the highest honor any man could ever have.
This is to show that the standing of 'abd is the highest standing for there is no greater honor than humbling yourself before Allah.

May Allah make us among His best slaves. Ameen.
Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazak Allahu khairan.
And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
