In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
Dear Friends
I pray that you are well.
The same way we don't allow ourselves to simply browsing in the mall and window shopping, we should not allow ourselves simply browsing on the internet.
Take the internet as a big marketplace. It is not a place to go without any specific Islamic purpose. It is not a place to pass time.
The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
The most loved place by Allah is the masjid and the most hated place by Allah is the market.
Remember those days when you didn't have a grocery list when shopping at the supermarket? You actually wound up walking up and down the aisles and bought something you didn't need. To avoid this sort of waste (Allah does not love the wasteful), make sure you have a "shopping list" before you turn on the computer. If you are the kind who has a lot of time on your hands or who can easily get carried away, set a timer so you will get off within a couple hours or less.
There is more to life than internet. For example, play with your family (more), read (more) books (not eBook or pdf--print them out), organize cooking lessons with your neighbors and friends, walk around the block, help an old lady, visit the sick, etc. Don't waste time staring at the computer.
[Qur'an Al-'Asr 103:1-3]
By time, (1) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (2) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. (3)
May Allah Most High bless our time. Ameen. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.
And Allah Most High knows best.
Wassalaam
