A Leisure

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

For working people and students, many can't wait for Friday. You could hear the sigh of relief when Friday comes--Thank God it's Friday (TGIF)! It is not because Friday is a blessed day, and the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, considered it Eid, but because they look forward to the weekend.

Many people consider the weekend as their leisure time. They can stay up late, sleep in, sit back and relax--watch TV, watch ballgame, watch movies.

Leisure is not just what you do when you are not working but is a way of being, a way of approaching life that brings you closer to Allah. It is not waste of time or a way to occupy the hours until you are working again.

Leisure is time to reflect upon the creation (the plants, trees, ants, bees, fish, birds, and so on) so we may know our Lord. It is also time to look at our self and uncover our faults. In terms of uncovering our faults, one way is to invite relatives over who don't particularly like you to point out things about you that your favorite aunts and best friends overlooked. Also, reflect on how our parents are/were because often times we pick up traits of our parents, and if we picked up bad ones, change them. This does not mean we should think negatively of our parents or show any form of disrespect.

If we do this often during our leisure, we will be on the road to be a better human.

May Allah Almighty  grant us tawfiq in this life and the next. Ameen. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
