In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum
Dear Friends
I pray that you are well.
Gone were the days when we didn't have phones. Gone were the days when we didn't have cellphones. Gone were the days when we didn't have android phones/iPhones/iPads. Gone were the days when we didn't have internet/wifi. Life was a lot simpler back then, families were more bonded and neighbors knew each other.
Every time I am around people, it's nothing pleasing to the eyes to see what people are indulging themselves into nowadays -- the phones and text messaging, and toddlers/little kids with iPads while everybody is eating.
I’m not sure if there is anything worse than a person who picks up his/her phone and starts staring at it in the middle of dinner with another person or his/her family, or at any point while they are having a conversation. I’m not anti-technology here. I have a degree in Computer Science and I did systems design and programming for many years. But I am saying that there comes a time to turn your electronics off and disconnect and remember what actually matters. People.
Turn off your electronics and just be with one another. You may not be able to see the other person ever again.
On the authority of Ibn ‘Umar, radiyallahu ‘anhuma, who said: The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, took me by the shoulder and said:
“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler/wayfarer.”
Ibn ‘Umar used to say: “When evening comes, do not expect (to live till) morning, and when morning comes, do not expect (to live till) evening. Take from your health (a preparation) for your illness, and from your life for your death.”
[Al-Bukhari]
May Allah guide us. Ameen.
Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.
And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
