You Don't Need to Be a Scholar to Warn People of the Consequences of Their Actions or Disbelief

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Yes, you don't need to be a scholar or having strings of ijaza to warn people of the consequences of their actions or disbelief of Allah. You just need a sincere concern for another and courage.

Sincere concern for another is that you care for the good for them. "None of you will believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself." [Bukhari & Muslim] One of the ways that it is manifested is by giving advice. When you want to correct people it is because you care, not power, not arrogance, not to show off, not to get even, and then you consider carefully how it would be of benefit to them and how it is reflective of the way of the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace). It requires that we look at the examples of Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) -- how he advised people and how he conveyed guidance to them in a positive way.

Courage, valor, fearlessness and boldness are all synonymous words. They are recognized as the basic qualities of a successful personality. Surely, boldness is different from carelessness and haughtiness or impudence or rudeness. Similarly there is a vast difference between bravery and indiscipline.

Courage and fearlessness are the signs of manliness and in many tasks these qualities serve as a bridge to success. Rather no achievement, progress and advancement are attainable without courage and gallantry. All social and intellectual revolutions too require these qualities.

Fearful and timid people hide themselves in corners like birds retreat in cold season. They do not undertake any task for fear of their opponents. Such people neither become reputable nor can they bring any change in life. At the most they can remain in their original condition.

But bold and courageous people first realize the importance of their aim, ponder over every side of the matter, weigh probable profit or loss, prepare a program and then begin their job without caring for anything.

Sincere concern and courage is virtually demonstrated in the actions of a believer belonging in the House of Pharoah who concealed his faith. In his ensuing dialogue with Pharaoh and his people, he invited them toward truth and faith as well as restrained them from killing Prophet Musa (Moses) (peace be upon him). This is recounted in the Qur'an for us. Read on.

Allah Almighty says (in close meanings),

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar. (28) O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct." (29) And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies - (30) Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants. (31) And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling - (32) The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide. (33) And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic." (34)
[Qur'an, Al-Ghaafir 40:28-34]

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant. (35)
[Qur'an, Al-Ghaafir 40:35]

And Pharaoh said, "O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways - (36) The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin. (37)
[Qur'an, Al-Ghaafir 40:36-37]

And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me, I will guide you to the way of right conduct. (38) O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement. (39) Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account. (40) And O my people, how is it that I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire? (41) You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver. (42) Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allah, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire. (43) And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants." (44)
[Qur'an, Al-Ghaafir 40:38-44]

Allah saved the believer from the harm the people of Pharaoh planned to bring to him, but they themselves were seized by a severe punishment. First of all, in His mercy, saved the believer right here in this world from the aggressive designs of the people of the Pharaoh against him, the details of which have not been mentioned in the Qur'an. But, the words of the Qur'an seem to say simply that the people of the Pharaoh had made many plans to hurt and kill him, and when the people of Pharaoh were drowned, Allah saved this believing servant of Allah along with Sayyidna Musa (peace be upon him). As for salvation in the Hereafter, it is fairly obvious.

Allah Almighty says,
So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment - (45) The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment." (46) And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire, and the weak will say to those who had been arrogant, "Indeed, we were [only] your followers, so will you relieve us of a share of the Fire?" (47) Those who had been arrogant will say, "Indeed, all [of us] are in it. Indeed, Allah has judged between the servants." (48) And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment." (49)
[Qur'an, Al-Ghaafir 40:45-49]

May Allah grant us the true religion and make us people of true concern and grant us the good of this life and the next. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
