Al-Haleem (The Most Forbearing)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Allah Almighty is Al-Haleem, the One Who forgives the sins of His servants which He screens from others to see in this world, Who is not hasty to call into account the disobedient, Who always overlooks faults and mistakes, and gives respite to the disobedient until he turns to Him for repentance.

Allah's Forbearance is uniquely matchless, since it has no like; and any kind of forbearance belonging to man is nothing to mention in relation to that of Allah Almighty.

In a hadith Qudsi, Allah Almighty says: O son of Adam! As much as you invoke Me, and hope for (My Mercy), I forgive for you whatever (sins and mistakes) were committed, and I do not care (whether they are so much grievous). O son of Adam! If you come to Me with sins and mistakes (as much as to) fill the whole earth, and you meet me (on the Day of Judgment), without ascribing anyone to Me (in worship), I will bring you forgiveness (for all of your sins, as much as to) fill the whole earth.

To be forbearing is not to be moved by one's anger nor by other negative emotions but rather that one is able to control one's negative emotions and express only that which is pleasing to Allah.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Forbearance is the best character

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, had no match among the whole mankind in forbearance, patience and perseverance. For 20 years, the pagan Makkans opposed him. They did harm to him, plotted to kill him, and the drove him away from his own town. When he was helped by Allah Almighty to conquer Makkah, and prevailed over those infidels, who expected a bloodbath and thought he should exact retribution from them for what they did to him earlier, the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, instead pardoned them and set them free. He told them to come out and said: Today I say to you what Yusuf told his brethren. No blame will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you; and He is the Most merciful of the merciful.
[Qur'an Yusuf 12:92]
Although the characteristics of forbearance is a Divine gift, bestowed by Allah Almighty to whoever He pleases, one might acquire it if he strives his utmost to have self control, keep himself away from being provoked by anger, and stick to deliberateness, patience, consideration and reason in all of his conduct.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: The strong is not the one who overcomes the people with his power, but the strong is the one who controls himself while being in anger.

Once, a man asked the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, to give advice to him (upon which he might act in his life), thereupon the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, advised him not to be provoked by anger: the more he asked him for another advice, the more the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave him the same advice.

Once, 'Umar ibn Abd Al 'Azeez, regarded the fifth of the rightly guided successors of the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, entered into a mosque and then he stumbled by the leg of a lying man who was asleep. When the man was scared and he got up, he became angry and said to 'Umar, the Commander of the Believers: "Are you mad?" 'Umar answered him in the negative. The guards intended to punish the man, but 'Umar cooled them, and ordered the man to keep lying. He then addressed the guards: "He has just asked me a question, and I've answered him."

This is the way of the righteous and the successful, whose conduct and guidance every faithful believer should follow.

O Allah, Most High, Most Magnificent, Most Forbearing, Full of Wisdom, Most Generous, Ever Near and Ready to respond to Your servants, Most Loving: keep us far from the splendour of this life, the evil end of heedlessness, lust and bad manners; forgive our sins; relieve us from our burdens; remove evil from us; and deliver us from distress, and make for us a way out of it. You have power over all things.

Ameen.

Have a blessed Jumu'ah and please forgive all our shortcomings. Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
