Let's Read Surah Kahf Today -- No Higher Status Than A Slave of Allah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Surah Kahf is one of the most recited Surah in the Islamic tradition. Of the many benefits it has is that it protects us from the fitnah of Dajjal, the greatest trial of this life that will fall upon this Ummah and the humanity. The teachings of the surah has to do with how to deal with the fitnah.

One of the greatest honor that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) was ever given was that he was allowed to travel miraculously to not only meet with other Prophets but eventually to Allah azza wa jall. The slave of Allah travels to heights that is never been reached by human being to receive revelation and communicate with Allah. Before the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) ascended, the greatest honor a human being had ever reached was on top of a mountain -- Prophet Musa alayhissalaam had spoken to Allah (Surah Taha, Surah Qasas). Physically he was on top of a mountain. But that was dwarfed by what the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) had reached.

No matter how much a slave rises, he remains a slave. The lowest status you can give someone, in language, is a slave. There is no word to describe a person lower than a slave. Somebody can be under anyone but nobody is beneath a slave. But in Islam, when you become a slave of Allah, there is no higher status than that.

In Surah Isra', the most incredible thing is that revelation did not travel to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam), but he travelled to revelation. Instead of the revelation comes down, the slave goes up and receives revelation and was given the 5 prayers at the time.

In Surah Kahf, Allah sent down the Qur'an to His slave.

All the praises and thanks are to Allâh, Who has sent down to His slave the Book (the Qur'ân), and has not placed therein any crookedness. (1) (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism), who do righteous - deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). (2) They shall abide therein forever. (3) And to warn those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, "Allâh has begotten a son (or offspring or children)." (4)
[Qur'an, Al-Kahf 18:1-4]

In the beginning of the Surah, Allah highlighted the word 'abdi (slave), and not any name (Prophet or Messenger) given. We share that word 'abdi with the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) for ourselves. This is a powerful lesson in that we do not separate ourselves from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam, in that he (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) is a slave, and that is the highest honor that a human being can attain.

The followers of Musa alayhissalaam didn't understand what it means to honor a messenger. On the other hand the Christians raise their messenger too high to a point they don't even think he is a slave anymore.

May Allah make us His best slave. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
