A Glimpse of Abandoning the Qur'an

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, has complained to Allah Almighty against those who abandon the Qur'an and turn away from it.

Don't be those included in the complaint.
وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ مَهْجُورًا ﴿٣٠

And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned." (30)
[Qur'an Al-Furqan 25:30]

Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “There are different kinds of abandoning the Quran:

- To abandon hearing it, believing in it, and listening to it,

- To abandon working according to it (its rules, laws, teachings…), knowing its permissible and forbidden; even if one reads and believes in it,

- To abandon making it the judge in the basics and branches of religion,

- To abandon pondering over and understanding it, and not knowing what it verses mean,

- To abandon healing the diseases of the hearts by it, all the previous is included in the words of Allah Almighty in the aforementioned verse.”

There is another kind of abandoning, which has prevailed in our times. It is putting a copy of the Qur'an in a certain place, to be blessed by merely its presence. It is leaving on a bookshelf, putting at the back or front of the car, until it is covered with dust, or baked in the heat of the sun, which is a testimony that it is abandoned. This as well a showing of disrespect to the Book of Allah.

The Qur'an is meant to be recited, not for a showcase.

May Allah guide us. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
