Marriage is a Blessing

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

From the beginning of human existence, man need a helper, someone to love, someone to share his life, and someone to walk along side him through good times and bad times.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam has stated, "Marriage is the basis for blessings and children are an abundance of mercy."

Marriage is a blessing, even in bad marriages. One of the greatest blessings is having a bad wife or a bad husband or a difficult marriage. In that difficulty, people usually feel a desperate sense of neediness of Allah. As a result of the terrible marriage, they turned towards Allah and reconnect with Allah and the apparent tribulation turned out to be the greatest of blessings in their life.

However, watch out if your marriage is good. How often do you find people in good marriages stagnant in their Deen and religious practice? Some are just drowning in dunya. They usually have a great social life, picture-perfect family, working together to upgrade their homes, filled stomachs, great health, membership in the gym and recreational parks, time to vacation here and there -- everything is fine and dandy -- as if it is just going up and up, getting better each day. The only problem is that Allah has no part in that marriage and this is a great tribulation for them. Because after a while, Allah will take away some or all of the blessings and tribulations will start knocking at the door.

The way to keep the blessings in marriage and all the blessings for that matter, is to be thankful to the Bestower.

Allah has promised that if we are thankful, He will give us more. If we are not, His punishment is severe.

And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' " (7)
[Qur'an Ibrahim 14:7]

How to thank Allah? A key rule to remember is that true thankfulness towards Allah is to use the blessings He gave us in a manner that will earn His Pleasure and not to use His blessings to disobey Him. A good way to start to thank Allah is to be aware of His presence and His power at all times and in all places, to be humble towards Him, and to remind ourselves of all the favors He has granted.

Can we truly be thankful to Allah in the manner which He deserves? Perhaps not, but we can definitely make a conscious effort to start acknowledging these blessings in our life and increasing in good deeds to show gratitude.

Our Lord! Grant unto us spouses and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous.

May Allah grant us 'afiya. Ameen.

Please don't forget us in your night prayers. Jazakallahu khairan.

And Allah knows best.
Wassalaam
