Completing the Qur'an

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Alhamdulillah, we completed our group reading of the Qur'an this month last night with more participation than last month. MashaAllah! May Allah accept your works and reward you well. Ameen.

InshaAllah, we plan to do the khatma again next month but a little differently. I would like to invite all of you to read a chapter of the Qur'an each day starting today (with the intention of joining this group). Simply complete reading by maghrib Friday, February 19 when we will do the khatma as a group at Masjid Vista inshaAllah. For those who do not know Arabic, it is best to read the translation first so you get an idea of what you will be reading. For those who can't read Arabic, you can read the translation and make a plan to learn how to read the Arabic. May Allah reward you and give you tawfiq. Ameen.

We should continue maintaining our Qur'an recitation and do much of it. The Righteous Forbears had different habits regarding the time in which they would finish the Qur'an. Some of them would finish the Qur'an once every 2 months or every month; once every ten nights or every eight; most of them every 7 night; some every 6 nights, every 5 or every 4; many every 3 nights; some every 2 days, every day and night, twice every day and night, twice each day, and 8 times each day (4 by night and 4 by day). Those who complete the recitation of the Qur'an every day include Uthman ibn Affan, al-Shafi', Mujahid, Sa'id ibn Jubayr and Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be very pleased with them all).

We should aspire to be like the Righteous Forebears. Don't say "I can't." We have time. Remember Allah create time and so He can expand time for us. InshaAllah, if you sincerely desire to do this, Allah will facilitate you to get there. That is His promise and we believe Allah keep His promises. It may take you your whole life to get there or maybe you never get there but you have made the good intention and even if you only made it to read a page a day for the rest of your life inshaAllah, the reward is still tremendous. Allah is All-Generous and All-Merciful. Remember, the Righteous Forebears did this without having dishwashers to help clean their dishes, washing machine and dryer to help clean and dry their clothes, no light switch to turn on the light, electric/gas stove to cook, just to name a few of our conveniences that have made many of us weak and lazy. We have all the ease and convenience in the world and yet for many of us can't do even a minute fraction of what they could. Excuses won't do us any good.

And Allah knows best.

May Allah bless your time. Ameen.

Wassalaam
