Imperative To Obey

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

The act of obeying Allah and His Messenger is the most important act for a person to be concerned about in his life. Don't forget our religion is called Islam (submitting) which is central to the idea of obedience. Obedience is the heart of our religion. So, we cannot be without obeying.

Allah says,

وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ۚ وَحَسُنَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ رَفِيقًا

Whosoever obeys Allah, and the Messenger -- they are with those whom Allah has blessed, Prophets, just men, martyrs, the righteous; good companions they!

(Qur'an An-Nisa 4:69)

If you obey Allah and His Messenger, you will be in the Paradise with the rest of Allah's honored slaves, i.e. Obedience is the key to the highest rank we can dream of, and disobedience is the way to the lowest level we can imagine.

وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّـهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا

...And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

(Qur'an Al-Jinn 72:23)

The substance of what we need to be obeying and go straight is in the Qur'an. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,

I have left among you two matters by holding fast to which, you shall never be misguided: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah.

Allah says,

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا

Surely this Qur'an guides to the way that is straightest and gives good tidings to the believers who do deeds of righteousness, that theirs shall be a great wage,

(Qur'an Al-Isra 17:9)

Allah says,

ٱلْيَوْمَ يَئِسَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن دِينِكُمْ فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَٱخْشَوْنِ ۚ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمَ دِينًا

...This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion...

(Qur'an Al-Ma'ida 5:3)

To be saved from the bottom most Pit is by holding on to the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace.


Allah says,

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى

What, does man reckon he shall be left to roam at will?

(Qur'an Al-Qiyamah 75:36)

We are not free to do what we like. The rules that we are to follow are specific rules about details in our lives. Every moments of our life, we should know what Allah wants from us at that moment, and act accordingly.

Everything we need to know is in the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

O Allah, don’t leave us to our own devices for the blinking of an eye. Ameen.
