Loving Your Parents for the Sake of Allah

Loving your parents for the sake of Allah is considered an act of prayer and worship. 

When you love them sincerely, you wish them a long life and serve them to gain rewards through them. If your love is rooted in worldly pleasures and interests, you may become resentful as they age and become more dependent on you. You might even harbor the most selfish thoughts, like anticipating their death to claim their inheritance. However, if you love your parents for the sake of Allah, you will render more service to them and cherish their presence even more as they grow older.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِيْ صَغِيْرَا

Rabbighfir lī, wa li wālidayya, warham humā kamā rabbayānī shaghīrā.

My Lord, forgive me and my parents, and have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small. Aameen.
