Remember the Terminator of Pleasures Often
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
‘Frequently remember the destroyer of pleasures,’ meaning death.” [ibn Majah]
Allah reminds us in the Qur’an, “Has the time not yet come for believers’ hearts to be humbled at the remembrance of Allah and what has been revealed of the truth” [Quran, Al Hadid 57:16]. This verse emphasizes the urgency of returning to Allah and making amends for our shortcomings.
Daily remembrance of death is crucial. The prophetic supplications and acts of dhikr throughout the day serve as reminders of the reality of death.
After each prayer, take a moment to contemplate death—not to fear it, but to prepare for what follows. Preparation involves sincere repentance, seeking beneficial knowledge, living according to divine guidance, and actively doing good.
The time is now to humble our hearts and commit to rectifying our relationship with Allah.
May Allah pardon us, humble our hearts, and bring us closer to Him. Aameen.
